I am always amazed at the serendipitous quality of SL. I was searching for beach/barbeque duds to attend Dulcie's party this weekend, when the search engine displayed a prefab home shop that looked intriguing. I teleported, intending to just poke around for a minute, but upon arrival, one of the galleries had original photography for sale that appeared to be close up captures of RL Chihuly sculptures! Then, as I took in the beautif<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-LRPG4T__4497H4EDsLt7aT2Xt8VbFxIaJs7Y3ZNLMGiuspAe_uYBRm2Z5MDUBMkyFTMWANRcD015c8w2vxHUaqk7JsmAenvrD-9tSdoGIaXE1Am4Oa70FRiSth0IVjfHExLzyhOQew_J/s1600/Jameison+House_020.png"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 162px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492354144277925426" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-LRPG4T__4497H4EDsLt7aT2Xt8VbFxIaJs7Y3ZNLMGiuspAe_uYBRm2Z5MDUBMkyFTMWANRcD015c8w2vxHUaqk7JsmAenvrD-9tSdoGIaXE1Am4Oa70FRiSth0IVjfHExLzyhOQew_J/s320/Jameison+House_020.png" /></a>ul textures in the builds around me, I was totally hooked! <br /><br /><div><a href="http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Jameson%20Architects/154/117/21">Jameson Architects </a>and the Stoneworks Gallery are currently displaying beautiful pieces of craftsmanship. The selection is not huge, but the styles are consistent. If you like contemporary style ala Frank Lloyd Wright inspiration, then Jameson is the place to try before purchasing you next home. The creator, Jaij Jameson, offers both condo high rises and individual homes.....mostly contemporary, geometric shapes, but highlighted with nature based textures that give a feel o<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWE7rmkXUoPvhme6z-iFlVdRzj6dY78IzLue0-5G2faoBWxHO2aV690mdE4D_7KL3SDKFoW6RhX91PCQVVreYh2cgDG7swHSl0UWjiSQ8iaEqFQokiW2B3t_23FYnGAyn6RyipkX752uxn/s1600/Jameison+House_024.png"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 162px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492354638899040402" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWE7rmkXUoPvhme6z-iFlVdRzj6dY78IzLue0-5G2faoBWxHO2aV690mdE4D_7KL3SDKFoW6RhX91PCQVVreYh2cgDG7swHSl0UWjiSQ8iaEqFQokiW2B3t_23FYnGAyn6RyipkX752uxn/s320/Jameison+House_024.png" /></a>f living outdoors while being indoors. A few of the styles are Asian inspired, but small details, such as flowing water indoors and doors that fold all the way open to allow the outside entertaining area to flow into the main living space, make these builds unique.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhMZbTEoRDsM6UMmFvE3tbaZFJFYLTFP_83ne_AqHO9h2154S6lPRwXb9nIyQuJJSmKQkQ46eCgzSs8LsV4dRUt7elepiOjQk65ShQlwEGJiZOfIAaSupFaDRSt8vAo9O93kqJ2pjAoJ2D/s1600/Jameison+House_023.png"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 162px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492355164944588002" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhMZbTEoRDsM6UMmFvE3tbaZFJFYLTFP_83ne_AqHO9h2154S6lPRwXb9nIyQuJJSmKQkQ46eCgzSs8LsV4dRUt7elepiOjQk65ShQlwEGJiZOfIAaSupFaDRSt8vAo9O93kqJ2pjAoJ2D/s320/Jameison+House_023.png" /></a></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div>While some of the smaller builds are basic and very affordable, I am completely in love with his Pavilions H<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN7YqtgFgOXwOUh1g4ag52D1xIBPciINAU0Df0UbKyokXK_dZE0ayHGcelW14sqtmF-s26VHFLtQbEz5CjS-B147HFBVbRhKq3TujMElAmnHpmPcorFUYJi66H3QnEimbwJW1Av9FoTUWa/s1600/Jameison+House_027.png"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 162px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492356659041298946" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN7YqtgFgOXwOUh1g4ag52D1xIBPciINAU0Df0UbKyokXK_dZE0ayHGcelW14sqtmF-s26VHFLtQbEz5CjS-B147HFBVbRhKq3TujMElAmnHpmPcorFUYJi66H3QnEimbwJW1Av9FoTUWa/s320/Jameison+House_027.png" /></a>ouse design. Yes, at over 400 prims, it is a bit prim heavy, but totally worth it! When I toured it for the first time, I was reminded of the difference between house rental and Homestead building in SL. Homesteads are defined as larger land parcels, unique house designs and enhanced by landscaping and semi-privacy. Instead of<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAMjuDhbPmniuyRofn2LIBI3n7JX5y3EHZr7j_1xX633gw2jItFHG8XIHkXhiFv-RtOr7vIFbnTMa3-cH8UYUETjxCpknL9kpOlrNfLUCdyOqPRcDLOOJj0C7oVnjwr4-SODtqW1bbmN4P/s1600/Jameison+House_019.png"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 162px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5492357087752800082" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAMjuDhbPmniuyRofn2LIBI3n7JX5y3EHZr7j_1xX633gw2jItFHG8XIHkXhiFv-RtOr7vIFbnTMa3-cH8UYUETjxCpknL9kpOlrNfLUCdyOqPRcDLOOJj0C7oVnjwr4-SODtqW1bbmN4P/s320/Jameison+House_019.png" /></a> renting a house or apartment, you are creating an estate-like experience that enhances the "home" feel of SL. Of course, a home is what you make of it, but for those of you more inclined to go for the homestead feel, I will be featuring some other unique prefab homes from time to time. I love home shopping almost as much as I love decorating them! I have tried a few different places, but nothing has stuck with me like my former utopia. Ok, so I'm romanticizing the past to extreme proportions, but the place really felt like a virtual home, and I guess 'home' is what I keep searching for. Since I found myself, again, between dwellings, I decided to look into Linden's new house program that provides each premium member with their own 512sq abode.<br /><br />The program is intriguing. Four different neighborhood types await, and each with a few different houses to choose from. Since the roleplaying/fantasy/mythology thing is not my cup of tea, I will only display the different neighborhoods that I actually considered.<br /></div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 203px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477466800200007106" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYghDUHrhdzBeCK7XQ1yH4DctqLFOAKhgz2NtBSh5WWZmfyB5vAPgStB58iWLK4C8-ASLgyjvQFr24UhpPp0t3uy0SkQOMLNUw8hXBySbdkjpbq5PUCieZ-D-gaeX1zpcNI9UjbCkdItkr/s400/Linden+House_027.png" /> There is the Asian themed neighborhoods and houses. The house details and beautiful trees make this a popular choice. If I had this little experiment to do over again, I think I would have picked one of these.<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 203px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477467171054735314" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjPtaMMB4tw5SbxGV2lD_qefMjwAvKGx7HX0Fkv8S5E-SUEAl8UgMwA36OyTKLdZ3S8SfiG_Ya7DHgbzJb-csuN0ho1vOrHh659DAmWa4Vz0coWUZU3t7oLzj4CcmcJw2XWrPBqHECpZju/s400/Linden+House_024.png" /> The only reason I didn't was the lack of windows. The inside seemed very boxed in with no window option. However, after choosing a house with lots of windows, I ironically spent most of my time with the curtains drawn anyway. I will go into further detail about the window issue when I show you the house I chose. The detail inside the Asian homes seemed lovely, and some had a loft which was nice. Overall, a pretty decent one room dwelling.<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 203px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477467922435466946" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5mRhzg4COJ0hHF1hIRjZTm1KEOzVaYH72nZ_aa4ufT4ESQvTWFY_JnBzFlOFiJ9R6JiUJTBb_L-2V_TlPFdy0SF72m6Ni-zuFtwBpy3pMbrxRC5u27X5vtekFunAl5URMO58OynZ3QMPg/s400/Linden+House_022.png" /> The woodsy/Adirondack/western/country themed neighborhoods are full of one style - the A-frame, in different colors. In contrast, the neighborhoods seemed too open and the amount of windows was staggering....kind of like living in a fishbowl. I know curtains would be an option, but still, it kind of creeped me out. Plus, the lack of house style variety made me pass over this option pretty quickly.<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 203px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477469341900917810" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE-LJhMS_FdVxET5uAYYow9Y_qI4VWyj62yvHDJAcWcmbeJjaNEIPOZ1sHD_k6qnw266Kth10NtPB6HgcsrVZPydnS6Z-igjVkBd7VeXMUGr9rSiSH8o2Qx96aWWq14djOSCRGQ5Y377RL/s400/Linden+House_001.png" /> My final choice rested in the contemporary neighborhoods. The modern feel and angles seemed to limit the openness and the design was something I liked. However, my first huge mistake was choosing a single story dwelling in one of these neighborhoods. I didn't look hard enough to realize that these single story dwellings were quad units.....four houses attached to each other with a small shared courtyard in the middle.<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 203px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477470098305230802" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqaHr-En_bjxdgbTAZqwdUYMmMGDkb9-k_6HhuzMxBB9poQLwwtjYF2T6JDCyRAsLS4a5crcnoOI3r-LQHR_s0U9qtpObuQyamFlWM32Ty0MU1cWBsbTrNaAgTjnrDtyiYYouwQ96tdRQ6/s400/Linden+House_006.png" /> The texture details were very nice, and the customizations were numerous enough to make your dwelling a bit different from the other three. Even the roof texture/color could be altered. <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 203px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477470536217316034" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBa5_GcMI_Iv6-4qN3CmNfM8ZFQF6Z1TP_4WXM49jwK1fAnw3lh8XIbayTDZHfzRhRT29E47DX6Zmzh50WFPdpCbQZASl8NauQv1DscewCe5EZ4hGeE4R0kBfIWop65qBe02Yc-IV8w1Rj/s400/Linden+House_016.png" /> This was the unit from the inside as received. As you can see, just one large room, although, some people have added partitioned walls to create separate living areas. The lighting fixtures and fireplace were nice touches. However, note that the prim limit is somewhere around 124....very low, and quickly used up, so you have to really get creative with the low prim furniture. <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 397px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 335px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477470849091411874" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk3sdYu2Cs-3iq-us5dx4ed4F8_GV65vJFp5zgr4hHxQ8TW8CzM2HIBO2tiK-90MdQDsibHMPkloIv2gFqI0YEB19tVJs27UCXErnCm96vSWHOKDAD-tL9W1whIki2ViUJaTxtIM-hUIS5/s400/Linden+House_012C.png" /> To change the inside and outside features, simply click on the panel just inside the front door. </div><div><br /></div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 333px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477471620321632658" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUh8hjYsf-fSqjRB5pqGy1TrYzfR6DMXkxLVPgopMmqViLYP0kTPnXsEJo1ERfLsi8Zy0EB6K5T43Wy4ud7BQBM4p4IfQHFvlRkWuze-LBAbexEVZkUa6cVEqT03YznWfBOj5FoDsNTbDX/s400/Linden+House_019C.png" /> This brings up customization screens that are html based and connected to the SL account.<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 203px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477472982157865490" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFZSjRu9NhUV07XaaXu9owoHDE_KdOcwj2SB0omAiKLJPFXpGQwO7Zorzm8Dqu7zu-1bEVnKJde2Sg9nvhdS4eUVQvI7sgAynQ_6R7KY_fEkclNyL63ZIazGhKv9cMsOnVYfOcXSm-asRy/s400/Linden+House_013.png" />This was my attempt at customizing to my liking. I liked the warmth of texture and color tone, and after realizing that the windows looked out onto fairly boring space I customized the windows to include the curtains. Besides, I also noticed that my desire for curtains was suddenly greater when I realized that my neighbors were right on the other side of the wall. If one is going to have such close neighbors, I'd prefer a city highrise apartment, not a quad unit very undynamic in style.<br /><br />From the title, you know this was an experiment. When I first started, Linden only allowed you the one permanent home with no choice for changing your house. I enjoyed the feature of letting me name my parcel, but I quickly found myself wanting to try out living in the other areas. After being stuck with this little dwelling for several weeks, I found that I hardly used it, and even though the option to change was newly added, I was suddenly questioning my need for a premium membership. If this was it....the stipend, the free boring little house, and preferred customer service....I knew that the money I was spending each quarter could be put to better use with a rental that I really enjoyed.I also happened to notice that my neighbors were not ones to stick around either. I'm suspecting this little Linden experiment is not going very well, or people are flocking to the Asian themed sim. Either way, after a year+ of premium membership, my little house experiment resulted in my pulling the premium plug. Perhaps I'll go back to that level again, but not unless it becomes very appealing. Right now, I like the freedom of renting in places that are creative and beautiful....and my neighbors are not right on top of me.<br /><br />On a side note, getting rid of this little dwelling was not easy. I had to click on the land and choose "abandon land" to release my house. However, the house is exactly the size of the 512sq parcel. Which means any land around your house is Linden owned, and not yours to abandon. I had to move my camera under my house to find my land parcel in order to abandon it.....kinda tricky, but determination helped me out at that moment.<br /><br />Many of you may love your new Linden homes, but for me, I think the simple structures crammed next to neighbors are pitiful examples of the creativity possible in SL, especially from its creators! If they continue this option, I hope they re-think the concept and create livable areas that knock my socks off, not bore me to tears.<br /></div><div>On to the next dwelling,<br />Sif</div></div></div></div></div></div>Sifriyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04988505052842981532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229228998237479433.post-78654331491623958262010-02-09T21:30:00.004-05:002010-02-09T22:24:58.870-05:00Writers Wanted!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGvAtvDvAm4tvt6xNLgNHA5o8tNWyQBsXHXOOYdW1ib_lzEa9_gaLJpGAwTajAY0sZj-EJ_pPQ8apeqtzKs-lTCCe_qeqSrr6Mv5A-DvNnnVQ1B7euzEHLZw6cNk2yt4vILzeshZStTDmW/s1600-h/Writing_045C.png"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGvAtvDvAm4tvt6xNLgNHA5o8tNWyQBsXHXOOYdW1ib_lzEa9_gaLJpGAwTajAY0sZj-EJ_pPQ8apeqtzKs-lTCCe_qeqSrr6Mv5A-DvNnnVQ1B7euzEHLZw6cNk2yt4vILzeshZStTDmW/s320/Writing_045C.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436441754932932530" /></a>After several weeks of roaming around SL and experiencing the many wonders it had to offer, I knew that writing about these experiences would be a natural extension. Char agreed with me those many moons ago, and hence, Sim-Patico was born. However, this is not the only blog I write, nor is SL the only thing on my plate these days - I'm sure we can all relate - and something has to give. After making a few adjustments, I had considered killing Sim-Patico, but I still greatly enjoyed sharing my experiences with the grid. Experiencing creativity inspires creativity, which meant I still felt the urge to create whenever I ventured back in-world. Since I don't have the time to be as involved as I used to be, and since I know the experiences and creativity out there are too numerous to count, I decided to open Sim-Patico up to outside writers. <br /><br />Ever have that desire to blog about the under appreciated places or events of SL, or to log your journeys, but just didn't have the time to keep up a full-time blog? Well, here's your chance to dabble in SL blogging. The subject ranges can be wide and as varied as the grid itself. I want to continue the fun and random nature of this blog so it remains a fun place to pop by now and again if you need some SL inspiration or a suggestion on where to go next. <br /><br />If you would like to join the writing team, you will need a Google gmail account (nice to have one with your avatar name), and some writing experience. Just drop me a line about your interest, writing style and subjects you would like to cover, and I'll invite you as an official poster to the blog as well as add you to our new in-world group: Sim-Patico Writers. One thing I ask...while we are all adults and have some adult interests, please try to keep things more towards the PG-R realm. I don't mind some romantic and a bit of saucy subjects, but no hard core sexually based material please. Otherwise, anything goes, venue features, fashion tips, poetry, journal entries, serious issues, etc. Consider this free form SL blogging!<br /><br />Come on! Think about how much fun we'd have with your unique contributions! You know you want to :-)<br />Feel free to send me questions as well....until next time,<br />SifSifriyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04988505052842981532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229228998237479433.post-74839445299288187432010-01-23T20:55:00.026-05:002010-05-30T18:54:05.262-04:00It Isn't Easy Being Blue!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV3pBPUySEi6E9PH7oM7gh1MEJP6FWYrHeAh5NEePg6sTbFygz5zOw4FendK_niyOFkiRKxnHwJ0BMdjNAhZECpkBr6IB2xx2FOYqmPXJDeO_U0JRpS_S1_sTBvZji1BMQ3q8TRwOHLPt4/s1600-h/Pandora_087C.png"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 314px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430123299353989682" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV3pBPUySEi6E9PH7oM7gh1MEJP6FWYrHeAh5NEePg6sTbFygz5zOw4FendK_niyOFkiRKxnHwJ0BMdjNAhZECpkBr6IB2xx2FOYqmPXJDeO_U0JRpS_S1_sTBvZji1BMQ3q8TRwOHLPt4/s320/Pandora_087C.png" /></a> So I finally went to see James Cameron's <em>Avatar</em> last weekend, and while it was beautiful and a nice story, I didn't become an avid fan like so many these days. In my opinion, it was a little too much like Dances With Wolves, except with blue Native Americans. However, I couldn't help but think about SL while the gorgeous CGI in 3D was drawing me into this new neon world. I knew SL residents would be hard at work trying to re-create the landscape and avatars, but I wasn't prepared for the work they have accomplished in such a short time!<br /><br />Upon hearing the first rumors of actual blue Avatars roaming around the grid, I knew Pandora would be there as well. Due to the well known adage "when in Rome", I couldn't possibly visit a Pandora without first transforming into a Na'vi - the blue natives that inhabit Pan<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcBG0lepc4Aj2OMJN1koFGDtDZYKfwxNtpvW7kGrQZDZLKWR70Pf6_IUOUhJ-5Q_C-2iXThO3ilGL2R95k-_zpMiPXtfcXU6M70AIvikqNmEQ9DXh3bZCRaiVaEZHRWbq5EkPJkgpW-fm-/s1600-h/Pandora_001.png"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433121288785261410" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcBG0lepc4Aj2OMJN1koFGDtDZYKfwxNtpvW7kGrQZDZLKWR70Pf6_IUOUhJ-5Q_C-2iXThO3ilGL2R95k-_zpMiPXtfcXU6M70AIvikqNmEQ9DXh3bZCRaiVaEZHRWbq5EkPJkgpW-fm-/s320/Pandora_001.png" /></a>dora (this is important to know if you want to explore these newly created worlds). Shopping was the first step, and as I searched for Avatar or Pandora or Na'vi in the classified section, I was blown away by the multiple listings. As I perused the various offerings, I was reminded of the fact that transforming one's avatar from human into a different being is not cheap and rather involved. Yes, there are a few free Na'vi shapes and skins out there, but once I got to Pandora, I was glad I spent a few extra Lindens to get a higher quality shape and skin. But don't forget the hair, and the clothes and any accessories, such as a weapon - yes, a weapon is something of a necessity as I found out. One silver lining - no shoes necessary!! My total bill for shape, skin, hair, clothes, feather earrings, bow and arrow set was around L$3000.<br /><br />Once I looked presentable, I went in search of a Pandora to visit. This 'Pandora' search term in the 'places' category turned up several results. There are multiple Pandoras across the grid and most are role-playing sims. This is why looking your best and being<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhTtY-NY1RIcM5I_wsByUfe0XqJDnK0l_O_H7KEFlGWTEBXfTNjs5SAlhyphenhyphenEi3_J9uJMw9rJMLpNBdjP0IqjEdrhhVPQvgokNXQSsKOnyWlDZBECevRNcjG4kWd-_ihST8VIzn7f7chVhBP/s1600-h/Pandora_056.png"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 162px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433121898964760354" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhTtY-NY1RIcM5I_wsByUfe0XqJDnK0l_O_H7KEFlGWTEBXfTNjs5SAlhyphenhyphenEi3_J9uJMw9rJMLpNBdjP0IqjEdrhhVPQvgokNXQSsKOnyWlDZBECevRNcjG4kWd-_ihST8VIzn7f7chVhBP/s320/Pandora_056.png" /></a> prepared with props (such as a weapon) are important before exploring these beautiful sims. I should note that this is my very first encounter with a role-play sim in SL. I knew they existed, and I had some experience volunteering in a history conference on Renaissance Island which required a script and a speech in character, but I knew that true role-playing sims meant business. The dedication necessary to truly enjoy a role-play sim is evident upon arriving at any of the Pandora welcome centers. The notecards are chock full of background character information. In some cases, Na'Vi language specifics are also included. Each Pandora has an option to enter as a visitor complete with tag to remind the permanent residents not to shoot you and be patient with your awkward skills. In the end, becoming a permanent resident requires a mutli-level commitment: character appearance (Na'Vi or human with air mask), character substance (what role or tribe - scientist, soldier, warrior, healer), knowledge of the social dynamic, complex weaponry with life level monitors wore at all times (DCS2), and patience to learn the ropes.<br /><br />Unfortunately, patience is not something I had in abundance. I looked the part and explored several Pandoras with my visitor tag held high, but in the end, I knew I didn't have the dedication necessary to enjoy these new places to the fullest. The richness of the new sims are worth the effort to get in as a visitor. Sometimes part of the fun was just figuring out which parts of the landscape were based on the movie and which were completely new creations meant to enhance the idea of P<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgelrq0bqfucIUCk8DFR4NTwMtGA-yLh3pd7jmcs-WO2SSMw5YognLdkC0RFGUb0AOKYQmyomPDQV9-6fJ4I9-VCrDpQ5Y-L725ekPOrCmKvyxAvNQIUH2uMFleLlHHUIGOflfDjUP8wwiG/s1600-h/Pandora_104.png"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 162px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433122793595986914" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgelrq0bqfucIUCk8DFR4NTwMtGA-yLh3pd7jmcs-WO2SSMw5YognLdkC0RFGUb0AOKYQmyomPDQV9-6fJ4I9-VCrDpQ5Y-L725ekPOrCmKvyxAvNQIUH2uMFleLlHHUIGOflfDjUP8wwiG/s320/Pandora_104.png" /></a>andora. If you are a true fan, you will love the idea of becoming immersed in Pandora, and you will not be disappointed with such examples as the Spirit Tree and those nifty spiral plants that disappear into the ground the minute you get close to them. Some of the lush neon forests are amazing, and in one Pandora that was a little less forest and a little more open landscape, they surprised me with the lovely detail of each step lighting up as I walked across a limb. This proves that even the lesser traveled Pandoras are worth a visit to compare the differing attributes and disseminate which would be the best fit for you (one of the most visited Pandora regions is produced by a German group with mostly all dialogue in German as you hang around - something to consider when trying to become part of the tribe).<br /><br />No matter what you do with your time in Pandora, the visit is worth it, and it may help relieve your post Avatar depression. One other thing to consider, who knows how long these sims will be up and runn<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNrmTClDxS7w72UmtCd3nmJ6fNbaD5_SftHUkBfh3-W8JRd_upZJJxvrGpPTfRyuaARGIBlUjCSpRHFCCQdSRqoOGKdQHRUDIwtsR63R_Ur3SnKRG3jpEG-d2j00FZX_Ddgqb0S4qVmcu2/s1600-h/Pandora_012.png"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 232px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433126746284724562" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNrmTClDxS7w72UmtCd3nmJ6fNbaD5_SftHUkBfh3-W8JRd_upZJJxvrGpPTfRyuaARGIBlUjCSpRHFCCQdSRqoOGKdQHRUDIwtsR63R_Ur3SnKRG3jpEG-d2j00FZX_Ddgqb0S4qVmcu2/s320/Pandora_012.png" /></a>ing before Cameron really digs into the money making structure behind such largely popular sims....or until Linden gets worried about copyright. Which is a shame because the residents have put so much work and creativity into creating these marvelous destinations and props, although I don't think that will be taken into account when they shut them down someday. Due to this possibly transient nature of the places I visited, I am choosing not to include any Slurls in this post. You were given the search terms I used above to locate the Pandoras that still exist throughout the grid. <br /><br />Until next time and a more normal color,<br />Sif<br /><br />Update 2/9/10: Even though I have not been back to any of the Pandoras since the writing of this post, Pandora Magic recently ejected me from their group (I promise I wasn't in there making any trouble!). This leads me to warn you that this particular sim might have an activity minimum to stay a part of their group.....or they didn't like my blog post :-)Sifriyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04988505052842981532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229228998237479433.post-53949081327850799922009-09-03T21:49:00.005-04:002009-09-03T23:10:06.294-04:00Wrapping Up the Summer in SL New England<div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVD7JrhwQ81S-EY58Y5qoDQN09iNJjGHiQitH9weYhxG3fcXPp69YADT5jubll_GEc_GJ16mCxg14OgCslz-pty9cD63OlvUWY7ovzIkmn0wlJH1OzSs08XgbVZTK_tYaMmZ0qaM9Mgy0g/s1600-h/NE+House_015.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377441859031974946" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 167px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVD7JrhwQ81S-EY58Y5qoDQN09iNJjGHiQitH9weYhxG3fcXPp69YADT5jubll_GEc_GJ16mCxg14OgCslz-pty9cD63OlvUWY7ovzIkmn0wlJH1OzSs08XgbVZTK_tYaMmZ0qaM9Mgy0g/s320/NE+House_015.png" border="0" /></a> So I finally ended my house search by settling for a small cottage in New England. I chose this little place due to the theme purity of this sim complex. As a group of sims dedicated to the New England style, the fully furnished beach houses nestled on little island coves, complete with your own sail boat and pier are refreshing sights to behold. The complex is connected by wonderfully detailed New England villages that encourage wandering about and shopping in the unique little establishments. As a huge fan of theme specific residential areas, the theme intended here is hit spot on with the atmosphere created in New England, Mystic and Nantucket.<br /><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377442506644950690" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 167px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcxw4BNigY-QYW9fMazovwapbLmc0Vq7lHdKmDFrwPiRoOdV_Z8rQNVWleZPkSsoj1CjTi1ZTdEowYrZSbCcRPaD_4mrsUTvH1lDfaV-sbUJsiynr6kNFEvHXTE8HdznAb9Y6leBW5b66q/s320/NE+House_025.png" border="0" /> Not only are the houses reasonably priced, unique in individual style (no cookie cutter houses here) and quite realistic, but the community on these sims is extremely active in the areas of arts, entertainment, commerce and cultural events. Of all the places I have resided, this is by far the most active and close knit community I have encountered. However, the heavy event activity that takes place is also refreshing in the fact that the event locations (village squares) are very separated from the residential areas. Which means the events are close and part of your community, yet far enough away to still allow habitation in a fair amount of peace and quiet.<br /><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377442869679499474" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 167px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZaQNoXiMgqaV6hMKrbVNpvopKNNdY0ItGNZx1CmzU_ny5BlCri1jwhyqDfjbfcXrWwwPEh7TPaDMIoLPmj4zeW68TthrzI9xYHZX5UGInBuiIJmcQcqJHT2D8B4P87JyK8AexnExEZhVW/s320/NE+House_022.png" border="0" />I could gush a little more about this series of sims, but it would be better to let you read about some of the unique features and events from the sims' own blog: <a href="http://www.slne.net/">http://www.slne.net/</a><br /><div>Enjoy!</div><div>Sif</div></div></div>Sifriyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04988505052842981532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229228998237479433.post-475558102487337742009-06-28T14:15:00.014-04:002009-06-28T18:32:17.346-04:00Mourning Michael Jackson in SL<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHAF7OhJ6-TFmpGGJ0fhLXgsYp5Hmm9qn6Zpe-3TxWWDlVcVsdBjC8sNdAByZenOcK-Gn6hjOBVi7kJ33-lf4paqnClRCBLMrZlS73T7uncVqZZqeAKjU1L44WB8yUwc-rP5PgRqicV45-/s1600-h/Jackson_019.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352503988355825938" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 182px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHAF7OhJ6-TFmpGGJ0fhLXgsYp5Hmm9qn6Zpe-3TxWWDlVcVsdBjC8sNdAByZenOcK-Gn6hjOBVi7kJ33-lf4paqnClRCBLMrZlS73T7uncVqZZqeAKjU1L44WB8yUwc-rP5PgRqicV45-/s320/Jackson_019.png" border="0" /></a> Heading into SL last night, Michael Jackson was actually the last person on my mind. In fact, it was nice to get away from all of the media coverage and begin my search for a new home. However, as I entered "home rent" in the classified search box, the very first entry was a <a href="http://world.secondlife.com/place/5a040881-0f33-55a1-c53c-2977c0fd2db9">Michael Jackson In Memoriam sim</a>. No, it was not for rent, which is odd that it popped up in this search, but it was at the top based on the number of people visiting this new sim. By last night, over 36,000 avatars had visited this memorial. Upon further searching it was later discovered that this sim is for sale with no neighbors for the bargain price of L$9900.<br /><br /><p>I will admit I was a bit shocked to see this Michael Jackson devot<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXUji7gDfvr9RdqyOuGxsyf7LVx6gwFqTGad6IsIf1pCDPx4H_jXneQOkgX5Jml8Wtwr8mhBrWFfvIbR4-ocxC0R16c9fFDXk0xdQCIf3Hi2ZYhBfxnB_kg_bnTI5TwWZDMqRqDFCmocKZ/s1600-h/Jackson_020.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352504295566464658" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 258px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXUji7gDfvr9RdqyOuGxsyf7LVx6gwFqTGad6IsIf1pCDPx4H_jXneQOkgX5Jml8Wtwr8mhBrWFfvIbR4-ocxC0R16c9fFDXk0xdQCIf3Hi2ZYhBfxnB_kg_bnTI5TwWZDMqRqDFCmocKZ/s320/Jackson_020.png" border="0" /></a>ed sim.....but maybe only for a few seconds....because I quickly remembered that what happens in the world is mirrored in SL. This is a cultural extension of what we are experiencing in RL. As a result, my curiosity was piqued. A second search in the "All" category brought up a pretty decent showing for Michael Jackson related sims, products and music events. It was amazing to see how many music venues had switched their music over to all Michael Jackson and in <a href="http://world.secondlife.com/place/2a9cb457-710d-5ee4-4946-58ac1305be91">Terra Bordeaux</a> a "3D" concert was being held - well almost. Upon visiting said concert, I was unsure whether to categorize this as a sick joke or a legitimate caricature. The 3D Michael Jackson was one you could buy for yourself for a little over L$600, but the actual form of this avatar was so skeletal that is looked as if Michael had been dead for several weeks already. The addition of giant angel wings on the back did not help matters.....it really creeped me out and I was not surprised that there was no one else around to enjoy the "show". Besides, the caricature MJ was silent as the grave and the sim music was general pop with no MJ music around.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhygTebcyn3s26dy0ZvXSCG6oTe2X0AABx4O4EpdMVQmjd_yRGEPiNozP9LfVTuLRgujf3uqpCjkd880o5LFkq3il894gpWFKlVCYkzQFw1cXH2ZViY5XkD7V_Iqd7WGZLrVQ52rsS0UHov/s1600-h/Jackson_005.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352504919674760834" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 244px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhygTebcyn3s26dy0ZvXSCG6oTe2X0AABx4O4EpdMVQmjd_yRGEPiNozP9LfVTuLRgujf3uqpCjkd880o5LFkq3il894gpWFKlVCYkzQFw1cXH2ZViY5XkD7V_Iqd7WGZLrVQ52rsS0UHov/s320/Jackson_005.png" border="0" /></a>Ironically, there were some really nice memorials that allowed people to light candles or leave flowers and balloons. What was extremely interesting was the variety of international representation. Each memorial was inundated with mourners or curiosity seekers from around the world. I loved the little memorial outside of the Old Stone Church at <a href="http://world.secondlife.com/place/981ce26d-1db0-04c2-f5e5-31d5f1fa7975">Some Enchanted Evening</a>. Visitors could read allowed their favorite quotes from the singer, or a devotional segment that comforted them. The only weird element I noticed here was a camping kiosk at a rate of L$2 per 10 minutes....not exactly memorial worthy.<br /><br />One note as you travel around viewing the memorials.....many are as eccentric as MJ was in RL. Case in point: The memorial on the <a href="http://world.secondlife.com/place/ad924352-9a5f-9ee7-34b2-9965c84a1b60">PassPort sim</a>. The church-like setting with roses, candles, free t-shirts and loads of MJ pictures is great as you wander around listening to his music......but yes, that is a bald MJ in a glass coffin, just like Snow White, in front of the cross in the chapel. And be sure to watch as you walk around....try not to step on the dismembered bodies strewn around. You gotta love these fans.....memorializing him in a way only possible in SL!<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJieAarJokPTzefeprtGGEaIRm5p3Mw7NeuGdZVFyOh99DxU7_Dehey9nTRD9tsNaPxj5Uu8wGkwjsokAu0PVVFj7XEbPLZtj3mUnrVdfBEm68I_x7SbzMMvly0zAbUXCnsaaE_TnOZzH3/s1600-h/Jackson_012.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352505780086071938" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 187px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJieAarJokPTzefeprtGGEaIRm5p3Mw7NeuGdZVFyOh99DxU7_Dehey9nTRD9tsNaPxj5Uu8wGkwjsokAu0PVVFj7XEbPLZtj3mUnrVdfBEm68I_x7SbzMMvly0zAbUXCnsaaE_TnOZzH3/s320/Jackson_012.png" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWl4Nm4_Srpz_WVhOaf96RV6LayRj4ri6jHRw1ahHSjO3dC9NZ0Opj7Dfbp-LXsm6obuLXRzZuJ45lCIIlGQKVe9kGccKN3jzOJoo5XUbKfpEEd6V8-jbvQoM1Vqj0i-LsZdwLJ2vPiCJC/s1600-h/Jackson_009.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352506049870962194" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 332px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 181px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWl4Nm4_Srpz_WVhOaf96RV6LayRj4ri6jHRw1ahHSjO3dC9NZ0Opj7Dfbp-LXsm6obuLXRzZuJ45lCIIlGQKVe9kGccKN3jzOJoo5XUbKfpEEd6V8-jbvQoM1Vqj0i-LsZdwLJ2vPiCJC/s320/Jackson_009.png" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Now back to house hunting!<br />Sif</p>Sifriyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04988505052842981532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229228998237479433.post-19629022041777054702009-06-10T16:26:00.014-04:002009-06-12T12:07:08.242-04:00The Danger of Sudden Homelessness in SL<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVqOBMmnQ7a59jSPzly_mJVHYHTZb9Imtpo5Uw6HBa65a2nga2q5I3aw5e5D6NM_2fmv_2gLRBYuHzqQNuHsQRwPGycIai2FszARLA3IMQp9ggboRhYZDCpG99j-kRRXeuDOrOaNn3FUh_/s1600-h/villa_002.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345798483491063314" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 234px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVqOBMmnQ7a59jSPzly_mJVHYHTZb9Imtpo5Uw6HBa65a2nga2q5I3aw5e5D6NM_2fmv_2gLRBYuHzqQNuHsQRwPGycIai2FszARLA3IMQp9ggboRhYZDCpG99j-kRRXeuDOrOaNn3FUh_/s320/villa_002.png" border="0" /></a> For the past 9 months, I have been the proud renter of a lovely little island set in a sim designed to be a replica of Tuscany. The sim was very well designed early on, but soon changed piece by piece until my island was the only piece of the sim that remotely resembled Tuscany.<br /><br />My rental agreement was well priced for a 4096 sqm island ($L2200 per week), with 937 prims. However, the rental restrictions were a bit odd, with no changes allowed in the areas of sim music choice, land elevations or visitor restriction. The limited rental permissions were due to the sim owner's desire to gain "purchase" along with rental. For $L7600, plus the same weekly rental, permissions were more liberal. I opted to try out the place for a few months, but music was not important to me and the shape of the island was what I liked about the place anyway, so I searched thoroughly for an Italian style home to plop on my island and continued to rent all these months without paying the purchase price since that was not a requirement.<br /><br />I loved my place but was getting frustrated with the ever changing environment around me. My Tuscan sim soon changed into a mess of varied, chaotic neighbors who could switch to a tropical theme or build a giant house of cards next door without any land design restrictions imposed. Despite these horrid changes around me, I still loved my place.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvZF8ATFyMAupMYV_YvceIbbc6IbJWHcORheGXfwOXKkBjNPV4OE4rSZmaN_TBombg7KyLUFZiyKi_eMUPQ9c4qY_nbdq5Blo0OLv-liQ4JoW2SIDrNa7lEW5exFUNYegZ88kb-bnf2r8F/s1600-h/Sif_001.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345920335461743266" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 167px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvZF8ATFyMAupMYV_YvceIbbc6IbJWHcORheGXfwOXKkBjNPV4OE4rSZmaN_TBombg7KyLUFZiyKi_eMUPQ9c4qY_nbdq5Blo0OLv-liQ4JoW2SIDrNa7lEW5exFUNYegZ88kb-bnf2r8F/s320/Sif_001.png" border="0" /></a><br />Some of these changes increased after my landlord informed me that he was no longer the manager of the sim. I think he gave me the name of the new owner/manager, but my rental box was still paying the same manager, so life went on without much incident.<br /><br />Due to some RL changes, my recent SL use has been very limited and the thought of letting my villa slip away was very tempting. My rental box had notified me that I had 2 days left before running out of rent. So the next day I attempted to enter the sim to pay for one more week to get some pictures and remove my stuff before letting the rent run out for the last time.<br /><br />That's when it happened.....I attempted to go to my sim to pay the rental box, but the transport failed with an error that said the sim was down or no longer existed!! I waited a few more hours for another try and then tried again the next day, but all subsequent attempts failed to find my beloved, yet crazy sim.<br /><br />After a few more attempts, I looked at the old manager's profile, and suddenly, my sim, which had been one of his picks, was no longer listed as it had been a couple of days ago. That convinced me that something was horribly wrong and so I contacted the former manager to ask what was going on. He explained that he was no longer the manager again, but failed to tell me what had happened. I also noticed that NONE of my personal property had been returned to my lost and found!! I was not only homeless, but ALL of my belongings had been stolen in the process!<br /><br />I tried further to get some information out of my former landlord, but he would only provide a partial name of the avatar that had taken over.....I was smelling something very rotten in Tuscany (Tuskany Sim). After some bugging and hostile verbal exchanges, he finally offered to give me a new parcel in his other sim for the same price and to reimburse me for the lost property. I estimated about $L8000 since my structure and boat were copyable, and this would cover my furniture/garden losses. He paid me the money without hesitation and then left without any word or explanation.<br /><br />I know the former manager now has a huge Itland sim with residential and commercial complexes, but after this fiasco, I wouldn't take him up on that offer for any sweetened deal imaginable. The owner is actually a native Italian which I thought would help with maintaining a traditional Tuscan style sim.....I thought wrong.<br /><br />So there really isn't any moral to this story except that if something like this happens to you, you could complain to Linden for fraudulent behavior if the owner/landlord did not reimburse you....and there are mediation/litigation groups in SL, but I'm not sure how much power they actually have. However, in all of my rental experiences I never imagined anything like this could actually happen without any warning. Can you protect yourself? I doubt it unless you restrict your home/furniture purchases to copyable items, but that's not possible for most of the really creative items out there.<br /><br />And of course, no one can reimburse you for all of the shopping time you took to get your home looking just right.....farewell fond villa, it was my favorite place so far....on to the next place.....maybe I'll go with a well established sim that has been around for a very long time....maybe that will help guard my rental investment.....but there are no guarantees.<br /><br />Your friendly neighborhood nomad,<br />Sif<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjXkaydB7jM4Jd5xbxRtcgmvns8vsXdGjcrJVCH_SVF2dQEVp6pfGE1OEvMluYcZsrmJ3M-izU94w81-062fOH77KBEmpOOgnroWiV-iupHkgwzBIt0jyEY3h7VgVWPb5pZUZd2zu8eu1x/s1600-h/TuscanHouse_004.bmp"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345921546855326258" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 187px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjXkaydB7jM4Jd5xbxRtcgmvns8vsXdGjcrJVCH_SVF2dQEVp6pfGE1OEvMluYcZsrmJ3M-izU94w81-062fOH77KBEmpOOgnroWiV-iupHkgwzBIt0jyEY3h7VgVWPb5pZUZd2zu8eu1x/s320/TuscanHouse_004.bmp" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw5zkHVjmsc_vrRsz7NAp-W0ZnkZjp3FskfVr7z07FHlbvF2fBsfVTzGDNbAhElCSBT9whgoeNpGw9jLBmxR6H4YBOtjoax33bgbtTGP9y_Rb_nGKcsyhbcgBGKFOHjacPXIWFgqtMJqlM/s1600-h/villa_002.png"></a><br /><div><div> </div></div>Sifriyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04988505052842981532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229228998237479433.post-45236777814153283542009-03-30T21:33:00.019-04:002009-06-11T21:54:48.711-04:00Reflections on a Year Well Lived<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4kdq34iV_LgcUhJQfQURxYf32Jl_PtL_AX8B7mFbcuxSCRxVWSQXwjxH64S99MxjXdQhUMS_aY7Ktk6DnP0hdJyaRC1bSX_XXzfTKiNMHW4sMO7cx63daDy8dgIWLRWCS8pcEJKOsmSmz/s1600-h/Sifriyafirstpic_001.bmp"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325318635258875730" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 222px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4kdq34iV_LgcUhJQfQURxYf32Jl_PtL_AX8B7mFbcuxSCRxVWSQXwjxH64S99MxjXdQhUMS_aY7Ktk6DnP0hdJyaRC1bSX_XXzfTKiNMHW4sMO7cx63daDy8dgIWLRWCS8pcEJKOsmSmz/s320/Sifriyafirstpic_001.bmp" border="0" /></a> Just over a month ago Sifriya celebrated her rez day....well, I should say forgot about the rez day until some magazine colleagues surprised her with a party. It is so hard to believe that it has been a full year since little Sifriya was born. I refer to her as little because she did appear very child-like when she first arrived on Help Island. Everything was so amazingly new and exciting! I think her favorite pastime was taking pictures of herself in new areas discovered.<br /><br />A year later, she still loves taking pictures....too many in fact.....but things have definitely changed for Sifriya. For starters, the population of SL has changed quite a bit. When I first arrived in SL, the average population in-world on any given evening was about 46,000. These days, the evening population runs about 86,000. An interesting observation about these population increases is the fluid nature of the new residents. The places I visited in Sifriya's early days seemed popular and well attended. However, popularity shifts quickly with the wind in some cases. Too many beautiful places that were frequently inhabited are now empty, and in several instances, erased from the grid. Of course, some of the hot spots are still popular a year later, but the formula needed to maintain the popularity seems to be a combination of dedication,<br />friendly people, beautiful atmosphere enhanced with a huge dash of luck.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVBXwLrW5xjAUR8rMhJoZaL46wMqX5CNbgj5sR1kgbnvvj376bsACsOrXW1xiQFNqkGemFRYrXz5FqQ1vcJGIA16Wl8dX0OlxWHf9MzSWJfmml7E7lubFVObxz0-_JTP044yOKWS_WzsGY/s1600-h/Timeless_005.bmp"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325319078048222658" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 234px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVBXwLrW5xjAUR8rMhJoZaL46wMqX5CNbgj5sR1kgbnvvj376bsACsOrXW1xiQFNqkGemFRYrXz5FqQ1vcJGIA16Wl8dX0OlxWHf9MzSWJfmml7E7lubFVObxz0-_JTP044yOKWS_WzsGY/s320/Timeless_005.bmp" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:85%;">What ever happened to Timeless?</span><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />All of this does not discount the fact that true talent in SL still abounds and can earn a nice amount of Lindens if the artist is persistent. There are still moments and experiences that render me a bit stunned in awe. The artistic talent alone is enough to keep coming back as some individuals continue to surprise when their creativity collides with the pixelated world of SL.<br /><br />As for the more personal reflections, the year has provided a wealth of new friends and colleagues. It has also proven to be a new way to connect with current RL co-workers....all while joining in the exploration of educational uses of SL. These efforts are growing and new results are being produced, but there is still a long road ahead to making SL a well respected educational tool available to everyone. Yes, SL is free, but schools are not always equipped with current video cards capable of running SL. Things look promising, and virtual worlds will be used in the classroom, but the jury is still out whether SL has the future locked up in this area.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325319996212648866" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 234px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUHaGT3IWwUUpOrmmxL-GbrsQ_iRXFXqHDFAd85h0x1B97a7HN2QO-pOeRWoFtGt3urJZx94KUQsoLO30evUcw7-c0bERk5O59CDVvlvmUcAci6WDn8YnUhMOTuv0AlNRfbSdrfGhEWJpT/s320/nasa_010.bmp" border="0" /><span style="font-size:85%;"> Listening to Stephen Hawking at NASA!</span><br /><br />On another personal note....shall we talk about the many different looks of Sifriya over the year? Looking back, the phases are quite comical....from the stiff hair poking through her hat, to the blue hair days, to the wing fetish, to the Cruella Deville look, to the current look which has proven to be comfortable and fairly normal looking. All were fun, but over time I have found the extreme experimentation with appearance was restricted to my newbie months. Once I splurged for a purchased body and skin, I no longer felt the need to go overboard with the appearance choices. Even my hair choices seem to have relegated themselves to auburn, cinnamon or brown...blackened or highlighted, but that is the extent of the diversity these days.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3eae4r6UTfII10KvAVRrGuxfcCM92ACTEAJ3BCHmojhKZ2qhGx_LK4NxRtelGMcQgCR4At6xa0IpviqpXnRVF4tJokvQ3hY97fRj2w2_vHrOKoqWurO18th-PesOE9m0HtwDLbadwLEA8/s1600-h/Sunset_001c.bmp"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325321984439407058" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 127px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 283px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3eae4r6UTfII10KvAVRrGuxfcCM92ACTEAJ3BCHmojhKZ2qhGx_LK4NxRtelGMcQgCR4At6xa0IpviqpXnRVF4tJokvQ3hY97fRj2w2_vHrOKoqWurO18th-PesOE9m0HtwDLbadwLEA8/s320/Sunset_001c.bmp" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_d1BjeOrjLzZKyE_vjddPUkJ4Qv2Y2VKrydjuTNH0mVhCdn3WnK-OzBr24fBPJ1pRoeexuADmHi8mB9bMzkOdCaZzDlESqLWAPlhk_KZihCPn-S0n19TdUMdc6Pr8UzOH7h7UoqO2xT1N/s1600-h/Sifriya+headJ.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325322467180241314" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 169px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 224px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_d1BjeOrjLzZKyE_vjddPUkJ4Qv2Y2VKrydjuTNH0mVhCdn3WnK-OzBr24fBPJ1pRoeexuADmHi8mB9bMzkOdCaZzDlESqLWAPlhk_KZihCPn-S0n19TdUMdc6Pr8UzOH7h7UoqO2xT1N/s320/Sifriya+headJ.JPG" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA4_ezFsFEyrToWzMrxHLo9GuTpqowofMwkmeMB-OVBbWaPHVmaJBrWAl8XB36sF5Rjd_Zqs7j6Smsv8eDgVWGg_C76UMoJEhWa4U2gELD8rytkaXCnTnh_qG3RMXiHZX9LYJX7Xr0l3dg/s1600-h/portrait10_027cropped.bmp"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325323464393729218" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 157px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 246px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA4_ezFsFEyrToWzMrxHLo9GuTpqowofMwkmeMB-OVBbWaPHVmaJBrWAl8XB36sF5Rjd_Zqs7j6Smsv8eDgVWGg_C76UMoJEhWa4U2gELD8rytkaXCnTnh_qG3RMXiHZX9LYJX7Xr0l3dg/s320/portrait10_027cropped.bmp" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJsvtSiggcbls_oVrqc33HvSkOeaHTPgaO5NQ6Mvr1ZTeF0tCwQvh8v63d4YHxRKXEfWunsUcGZoB5gY5isJHhihaJBVSp_nmcfZJyTYeS8Ohz3A-DaBMIBXFm8rCW1M7YOiytUE7b3kIr/s1600-h/SecondFriends_034c.bmp"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325323021600634946" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 184px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 251px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJsvtSiggcbls_oVrqc33HvSkOeaHTPgaO5NQ6Mvr1ZTeF0tCwQvh8v63d4YHxRKXEfWunsUcGZoB5gY5isJHhihaJBVSp_nmcfZJyTYeS8Ohz3A-DaBMIBXFm8rCW1M7YOiytUE7b3kIr/s320/SecondFriends_034c.bmp" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><p><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />In short, SL continues to provide a wonderful creative outlet for this right-brained human behind the avatar. It goes without saying that the romantic ballrooms and clubs are jam packed with couples and singles alike. If you haven't visited some of the romantic dancing places in SL, you're missing quite an experience. From blues to salsa to formal ballroom, several wonderful venues exist to suit your mood. Regardless of choice, the most popular places have several things in common: great music, detailed romantic atmosphere, friendly staff, beautiful dancing animations and shopping on the side. The one problem with many of these popular venues is the lag. Many evenings, the number of avatars present, dancing with complex flexi attachments makes rezzing and walking somewhat of a drag. So it is a great delight to find lesser known places with all of the qualities of the popular ones.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5286391141749030658" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 167px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWSAi1FyjroA4fl_yxXu-ZlOkO4eY35m6FTf9ZItXpc2S6okkcv06sJOF10zNag72Gz-bmbaqB6VDM-ZKG6ADYWRh49W6ADckE6nt3DUvw6B-idmWEZEPPFkgbCO0GP_JK6aEMR3aKhp8Q/s320/New+Year_029.png" border="0" />I stumbled upon the <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ratopolis/91/162/26">Bubbly Nightclub </a>on the Ratopolis Sim about a month ago, but hadn't actually been back for dancing until last night. What a special night to choose this romantic spot! The architecture is very stately with warm toned marble/granite and ocean views. The dance floor is a perfect size flanked by long windows, columns and red curtains while the second floor contains a fully functional dining experience. Best of all, this place was gorgeous without the extreme lag! There were several couples enjoying this place, but not nearly as many as the main romance hotspots. The music was a perfect blend of vintage romantic vocal jazz and slow big band. A reminder that the dress code is formal at Bubbly, and if you need any help picking out that special attire, there are many shops and a wedding chapel across the bridges on the Mediterranean style port (looks like architecture by <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Demersal/18/112/51/?title=Barnesworth%20Anubis">Barnesworth Anubis </a>which creates the ultimate seaside romantic atmosphere). Be sure to head around behind the ballroom toward the ocean after walking down the stairs....there are proposal animations, a gondola ride and wine cellar underneath the ballroom....this helps Bubbly live up to its mantra: Where Romance is Alive!<br /><div><div><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5286390799176394162" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 167px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhOpYBiInrx_ZjVmC01CQJftC1V_gFgPJFQ3HlUcBWZiuoJbIYKVSumv-VyB0dgTyWEFnyzAcSnTeFvWYU30O0_d5PuGdEkfmrziyJNx7coE9O1Le8y39K_cUeaZidMVhkXqv3LPtjCS-C/s320/New+Year_021.png" border="0" /> Bubbly sure knew how to decorate beautifully for the evening, and the dance animations were very romantic. One of them even included this sweet kiss animation, just perfect for the stroke of midnight! Happy New Year everyone! Here's to a hopefully brighter year! Bubbly will definitely be one of my favs this year!<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377417122298223170" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 167px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUW1TCfSBj1eybjB8MMNkgzr2GK-GqhXuoIsp9UzNO7N7qReE78MpLmk7f3QDdrCsJj0oFTNM5ZvWblV6AjqQ7o8TCGjdg6CC3CPT5BJH9vC6XogdaY_vNYUvRRD2uM4vrrFGpY7LWJk7E/s320/Snapshot_007.png" border="0" />Sif</div></div></div>Sifriyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04988505052842981532noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229228998237479433.post-71657226491956717092008-11-08T20:53:00.008-05:002008-11-08T21:24:56.871-05:00Happy Birthday to Lilly's!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZgPFUO5hOMye59VdBDZvIMIAQePJi0GPEy8IGN9eK_HSIoZvlxGsyJoSR_pnQRjQ9mac_3eDuvExlx86jHOpkpMQKKbRUW65HN8Pg0gYbfBdpVlHkPXfEmHdxPRlvYoZcmlAUA8yJPC2-/s1600-h/Lillys_002.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266475751777560898" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 167px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZgPFUO5hOMye59VdBDZvIMIAQePJi0GPEy8IGN9eK_HSIoZvlxGsyJoSR_pnQRjQ9mac_3eDuvExlx86jHOpkpMQKKbRUW65HN8Pg0gYbfBdpVlHkPXfEmHdxPRlvYoZcmlAUA8yJPC2-/s320/Lillys_002.png" border="0" /></a> I have to send out a quick birthday greeting to Lilly's Irish Pub that turns 1 year old today! In my opinion, Lilly's is THE best Irish pub in SL. The people are friendly, the music is great and the Sim is gorgeous! No weird flashing eyesores here on the <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Glendalough/116/105/30/">Glendalough Sim</a>. Everything has been done beautifully in traditional Irish seaside style complete with old romantic ruins, churches and cottages for resdential use. By the way, if you're planning a wedding, the stone arched courtyard with lots of white candles and roses is a must see! <div><div><br /><div>Lilly's has always been a sentimental favorite of mine. Not only am I bit Irish in RL, but Lilly's was one of the first places my friends and I stumbled upon in our newbie da<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjyzJTh_v2r8V_YyzrB35xID2BOCobqQZxlg-95NgjS9WH7iilPNOp6qZWMxOs470Vqj1M9r07hMcHJdo-vHytVvXJ0GIYvovNjjNIrF3aqfqIZ3s_i0KbZ-D8_mK6aZ8AC2Ef7eiL66vY/s1600-h/Lillys_010.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266476261333783522" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 167px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjyzJTh_v2r8V_YyzrB35xID2BOCobqQZxlg-95NgjS9WH7iilPNOp6qZWMxOs470Vqj1M9r07hMcHJdo-vHytVvXJ0GIYvovNjjNIrF3aqfqIZ3s_i0KbZ-D8_mK6aZ8AC2Ef7eiL66vY/s320/Lillys_010.png" border="0" /></a>ys. We were only a few weeks old when St. Patrick's Day rolled around, and Lilly's gave us the best music, dancing and welcoming atmosphere, even as we danced around in our silly green freebies :-) Also, the music is not limited to Irish ballads only, lots of rock themes to go around. Join their group to get the full extent of their musical range - and enter their many contests.</div><br /><div>Do yourself a favor and put Lilly's on your short list of favorite dance places! Not only are there cute Halloween freebies everywhere, but the decorations, dance parties, costume contests and haunted houses can quickly fill up your calendar! This activity is fun alone, but even more fun with friends. The Sim featured in the following pictures is the Halloween Horror Village in <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Antiqua%20Paradise/80/208/551/">Antiqua Paradise</a>. The place is huge and includes various areas dedicated to horror movies and tales of fright. Many different pose balls can be found to make the adventure even more rewarding. The various death scripts are quite comical, including the guillotine, coffins and being eaten by a giant spider. Rumor has it that Freddie Kruger even lurks in a hidden chamber. </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiWe1lrNcoIK-7H3pXMRpVfpMrv9evmAG5CZd2n43S2P6TX9VYeNlSthShrpwzANop1BzAXkgph20qc18dGCyfagUuETIsTKqppBdvw7lqaGihFBIX96GqFNOGWJdmd7cibSG7A8xmJpDI/s1600-h/Haunted_012.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261277303026037666" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 167px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiWe1lrNcoIK-7H3pXMRpVfpMrv9evmAG5CZd2n43S2P6TX9VYeNlSthShrpwzANop1BzAXkgph20qc18dGCyfagUuETIsTKqppBdvw7lqaGihFBIX96GqFNOGWJdmd7cibSG7A8xmJpDI/s320/Haunted_012.png" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFJ3ER_jP0oRY2LW4PeN25RG1djv12wcY4LIpCudKdHjPTv72yABg8l5sG9xTiUxQYASqvnqIkiJWEq8_ffn-i5JXuY-iX42VIgnLDNf_PYIui66ea0quh2u3uMX_c2OJ3-udlMXXcsCMX/s1600-h/Haunted_025c.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261277704386928962" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 194px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFJ3ER_jP0oRY2LW4PeN25RG1djv12wcY4LIpCudKdHjPTv72yABg8l5sG9xTiUxQYASqvnqIkiJWEq8_ffn-i5JXuY-iX42VIgnLDNf_PYIui66ea0quh2u3uMX_c2OJ3-udlMXXcsCMX/s320/Haunted_025c.png" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><div></div><div><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoZchOcEfIslG_up-TRa0_DSe_RsnLVWFgYHYfK0IDxSK4vRdNUxlwWJfo6yPwTrWl4DEmRyTk_Kc2-WEaPvHV032nN1dg47_ymdhIZHylD7z5VB7LFcLx4jajecRCVGhADcC1ObpdXjHZ/s1600-h/Witch_005c.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261278094657258354" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoZchOcEfIslG_up-TRa0_DSe_RsnLVWFgYHYfK0IDxSK4vRdNUxlwWJfo6yPwTrWl4DEmRyTk_Kc2-WEaPvHV032nN1dg47_ymdhIZHylD7z5VB7LFcLx4jajecRCVGhADcC1ObpdXjHZ/s320/Witch_005c.png" border="0" /></a><br /></div><div>Another great place for a hauntingly good time is the House of Horror at <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Paradise%20City/29/92/21/">Paradise City</a>. However, when I began to search the land sales listings, only a small percentage were actually for sale. The rest of the "land sale" listings were actually rentals offered in the guise of land purchase. If you truly purchase land, you do need a premium account and have to pay monthly tier fees to Linden if you purchase anything over the allotted 512 square feet size - which is, in reality, a tiny parcel. Then, if you get tired of your parcel, you have to continue to pay the tier fees until you sell the land to someone else. Based on the sheer volume of small land parcels available in SL, selling a parcel could take months, unless you spend more fees for classified ads to attract buyers.<br /><br /></div><div>Then there is the problem of neighbors. You may find the most beautiful parcel of land imaginable, but a few months or weeks after rezzing your new house, you suddenly have new neighbors who build something ghastly or distracting to your guests. Then what happens? If you've purchased the land, you have to sell it to move - and good luck selling with weird builds next door. Or, as in my case, you lik<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwjkYDqQklDdyHm5YNZ2kKnH9hogOYJXGatcycQ-wuJqioJIkhbsj40s_PDZGgGPrJ-dC3Dhl6nnJlZeU1k1MHEH-WZQuu0wxjQkIa75_Ege_x55WPELU8Ckocn-CsRGUVfiVh9szB1TjN/s1600-h/Weirdness_007.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5256088471135216818" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwjkYDqQklDdyHm5YNZ2kKnH9hogOYJXGatcycQ-wuJqioJIkhbsj40s_PDZGgGPrJ-dC3Dhl6nnJlZeU1k1MHEH-WZQuu0wxjQkIa75_Ege_x55WPELU8Ckocn-CsRGUVfiVh9szB1TjN/s320/Weirdness_007.png" border="0" /></a>e to change your home with your mood. I had a beach house during the summer, and a Tuscan home in the fall. This type of change is only practical if you rent the land.</div><br /><div>If you do want to take the plunge into actual land purchase, examine the land covenant in the "about land" section when right clicking directly on the land. The land covenant will let you know what type of building is allowed. This is VERY important! Some land covenants are very open and allow almost any type of build, which is tricky as explained above. Other covenants are very restricted which detail the size of your build based on parcel size, and how close to the property line you can rez, or what style of house allowed. In my experience, for sustained re-sale value, the more restricted in the area of style, the better the overall atmosphere remains. Just because you purchase the land, does not mean you own the entire sim, so you will want to see how many prims are allowed on your particular parcel - not all land prims are the same - some sims are more generous than others when it comes to prim allowance - and don't forget to look at the prim level of the house you are going to rez!</div><br /><div>If you decide the rent the land, you usually have the same privileges as a true purchaser, but retain the freedom to vacate as the mood hits you. Of course, renting the land might be a little bit more expensive, but not very much, so it's definitely an option worth considering.</div><br /><div>So, if you are happy with your previously rented little space, why would you want to build your own house? For me, visiting a prefab home showroom once had me quickly hooked. Once I was made aware of the existence of these large stores, my lovely little rented house suddenly seemed inadequate. The wonderful thing about these supercenters of architecture is the ability to tour each home at leisure. </div><br /><div>The sheer variety of homes available is staggering, although the majority of homes available in SL are contem<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiISN5kB6HhTmjsegELnffXvLD3ELh9ejmKrYbukwS1k5PHhBNKMgnkYd4-u6tydIi39BmPwAVt4P-kZAXAb5ls6fK7-ZuxV-uPceR8wek_kBUl4-ym3tcWsWeFQc3yR7kh3unGBxflVtZE/s1600-h/Labor+Day_028.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5256111142992335410" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiISN5kB6HhTmjsegELnffXvLD3ELh9ejmKrYbukwS1k5PHhBNKMgnkYd4-u6tydIi39BmPwAVt4P-kZAXAb5ls6fK7-ZuxV-uPceR8wek_kBUl4-ym3tcWsWeFQc3yR7kh3unGBxflVtZE/s320/Labor+Day_028.png" border="0" /></a>porary in design....not only because this design is popular, but also because it is an easier design to build. Some of the contemporary designs are simply stunning due to high levels of textural quality. My preference lies in homes that closely resemble RL architecture, but the sky is literally the limit in SL when it comes to designing homes. Besides elaborate skybox houses that float high above the land, any other kind of imagined architecture can be found. Fantasy houses, such as treehouses or castles, are also very popular depending on the land you choose to build on.</div><br /><div>Matching your house to the land is probably the first major element you should consider when toying with the idea of building or rezzing your own home. If you want a ski lodge, don't rez one on beach front property....and besides, the land covenant probably would not let this happen anyway. But, once you are ready, simply visit the potential parcel just as you did when shopping for a home rental, and pay the weekly rental box in the same manner. Once your resident group is activated, you are ready to get rezzing!</div><br /><div>Here are a few of my favorite prefab stores:</div><div><br /><a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Demersal/18/112/51/?title=Barnesworth%20Anubis">Barnesworth An</a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8qsESxjozCeMpFZpLJSHf_ycTTMdRgV5fpAMBuE_cameKkIeafJesjUwrKWJCav-58uh8LEJS01lWfR0Y5jsjnwy6dWMJRSAiI6E2WztjXUzZ86wo7C-uSQFXGBUq0G64ozihwO8kl8lr/s1600-h/Prefabs_005.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5256112518280368114" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8qsESxjozCeMpFZpLJSHf_ycTTMdRgV5fpAMBuE_cameKkIeafJesjUwrKWJCav-58uh8LEJS01lWfR0Y5jsjnwy6dWMJRSAiI6E2WztjXUzZ86wo7C-uSQFXGBUq0G64ozihwO8kl8lr/s200/Prefabs_005.png" border="0" /></a><a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Demersal/18/112/51/?title=Barnesworth%20Anubis">ubis Pre-Fabulous Homes and Furniture</a>: Barnesworth is probably my favorite place for nice solid homes with great detail. There is a treasure hunt always going on to allow winners the choice of their favorite villa as a prize....but this means a lot of visitors and quite a bit of lag.</div><br /><div>Enjoy, </div><div>Sif</div></div></div></div></div>Sifriyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04988505052842981532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229228998237479433.post-20093870836673390452008-09-06T10:40:00.024-04:002008-09-08T08:43:26.075-04:00House Hunting SL Style - Part II<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3JTmNmJKl4eG4LmTpJFZheDwNYbCgI3l4rJ0DRkyaeFqE64nPOmp8X7OC38jon2_hCxQBU-IFt5pEnonEY70iF6oZ-dNlE6_V-ey59zMgQjL9PMsPOzosWAGa_iobAlghP4cD6YkkmHfr/s1600-h/Rentalbox_001.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242974849492291090" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3JTmNmJKl4eG4LmTpJFZheDwNYbCgI3l4rJ0DRkyaeFqE64nPOmp8X7OC38jon2_hCxQBU-IFt5pEnonEY70iF6oZ-dNlE6_V-ey59zMgQjL9PMsPOzosWAGa_iobAlghP4cD6YkkmHfr/s320/Rentalbox_001.png" border="0" /></a> To begin the rental process, you must first find an available house. Some residential sims contain a nice showroom with pictures and rental rates of the available houses in a convenient slideshow sign. Once you have an idea of the house you would like, be sure to teleport there first to tour the home before you commit to the rental. You can pay the rental from the slide show display or directly from a rental box outside of each house. Once you have selected the house you want to rent, simply click on the rental box and pay the amount of advance rent you want to deposit. ***NOTE*** Before you pay this rent, be sure to read all land covenants<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz7rBEPsopo8FfSBf308xLGM5bXrUlkukx2FPgaLojxImEC30oLAE-EXNqy1foAcT2qN5e4jtPBdqNEf2ZJKlWN6iNorcwehybHH70a8sYiztpZ34hU2K-Bd1emHoI3tCj46TZaTqYXhjw/s1600-h/Rental_001.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242971947077450178" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz7rBEPsopo8FfSBf308xLGM5bXrUlkukx2FPgaLojxImEC30oLAE-EXNqy1foAcT2qN5e4jtPBdqNEf2ZJKlWN6iNorcwehybHH70a8sYiztpZ34hU2K-Bd1emHoI3tCj46TZaTqYXhjw/s320/Rental_001.png" border="0" /></a> associated with the parcel. Just like land purchase, rental houses usually have a land covenant that restricts how you build on it. For instance, some places do not allow flags above the houses or anything that could distract from your neighbor's view. Customarily, this covenant is included in a notecard either in the office or as an option in the rental box. If this is not readily available, simply right click on the land parcel and choose "about land". There should then be a tab named "covenant" to give you the details.<br /><br /><div><div><div>Once you have selected your house and paid the rental box, your possession of the place will depend on whether your new landlord is online. If they are not, you will have to wait until they invite you to the group permitted to build. This may take 24 hours, or it may be immediate. Either way, you still need to go shopping, so be patient and enjoy this new adventure in commerce!</div><div><br />If you thought clothes shopping was fun, wait until you get to decorate your new place! A whole new level of fun awaits as there are nearly as many furniture places as there are clothes shops! **NOTE** Make sure you remember your prim allowance for your new place and be sure to look at each item before purchase to ensure you buy the lowest prim furniture you can find. If the item's prim count is not listed in the buy hover box, just right click the item and select "edit" to see the prim count listed in the general tab. Trust me, the prim count can build quickly - so choose wisely! Oh, and no need to purchase TV or radio if you are renting the house, most rental units (not all) include these gadgets already installed in your house and ready to go! </div><div></div><div>Below I am listing a few of my favorite furniture places...so enjoy! However, some of them are more beach related so I will annotate to help guide you to the shops that will best fit your taste. </div><div><br /><a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Lokview/185/97/21/?title=Lok%27s%20Low%20Prim%20Furniture">Lok's Low Prim Furniture:</a> THE best place for low prim, low price furniture! Huge warehouse of things to choose from for every room in the house! I love the artwork and the rugs available...great selection and nice details for the price....if you need a low prim item to fill a bare corner...try here first...you'll be glad you did!</div><div><br /><a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Egret%20Island/140%20/152/23/?title=Eldrich%20Interiors">Eldrich Interiors:</a> Truly the home of low prim/high detail furniture. The sculptie nature of the furniture adds an element of vinyl detail not often found in SL. However, I would only select these if your video card is fairly new. They have a notice at the front about the graphic settings you should use if you purchase these products. My only worry would be having guests adjust their graphics to better see your decor - might be awkward. They are a bit pricey, but the low prim for sectionals is worth the buy....the green couches in the pics below are from Eldrich. Also VERY nice feature: no visible pose balls - the seating is menu driven and offers guests a choice between several different poses!</div><div><br /><a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Pendragon/189/34/29/?title=Shops%20of%20Pendragon">Shops of Pendragon:</a> I have to draw people's attention to Calavar/Pendragon again. The shops themselves are a bit small in number, but the additional architectural elements available are beautiful! You can choose from ancient designed fountains, columns, fire columns (my favorite), roman art, low prim giant palms in moroccan pots, and ancient design houses that are amazing! Definitely worth the trip!</div><div><br /><a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Asimov%20Park/183/114/29/?title=Idea%20Home%20Center">Idea Home Center:</a> Ultra contemporary furniture, but well designed - not your customary box shapes normally found in contemporary SL furniture places. Also a great place to buy nice memory pieces - structures that allow you to place your own SL or RL pictures inside for a personalized display.</div><div><br /><a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Fatimas%20Art/92/51/37/?title=Antique%20Artistry">Antique Artistry:</a> I just found this place a couple of weeks ago. Wonderful mixture of high texture antique furniture alongside some contemporary designs. She also sells victorian houses if you're interested. Nice prices too!</div><div><br /><a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/K%20Design/128/123/21/?title=K%20Design">K Design Tropical Island Furniture:</a> My absolute favorite beach furniture stop! The prims can be a bit high, but the prices are great and the details are wonderful! The beautiful turquoise tent-like structures and gathering places are stunning and are perfect beach ensembles! Almost all of the patio furniture seen in my pics below came from K Design....gorgeous stuff!</div><div><br /><a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ohana/237/234/22/?title=Tiki%20Beach">Tiki Beach:</a> Next to K Design, this is my other favorite place for beach furniture. This place is actually bigger and includes wooden piers as well as other landscaping items. Prims can be a bit high, and the pricing is decent, but the variety can't be beat...you will enjoy spending an afternoon here!</div><div><br /><a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Zandis%20Folly/133/57/27/?title=Organized%20Confusion">Organized Confusion:</a> Very charming little place with loads of furniture that has a high level of detail. Both indoor and outdoor furniture is available. Some of the styles include primitive french country which is popular in RL....very rare to see in SL. Prices are reasonable and prims are decent. Definitely worth the visit!</div><div></div><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Pv_3YdkEGLcgJxNPNGfZOSf5p7l3YbS8-Xn_tz4uqdIhHdbOGKtuMpPzTuLv99lZMMproif4BlAAK7trOXdHj69y8Pk8czNpPd5NCXgYFGAPz3-iKODwnuZD19A2hVOJLgeT38CCK8M8/s1600-h/Kaia_033.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242977046745328354" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Pv_3YdkEGLcgJxNPNGfZOSf5p7l3YbS8-Xn_tz4uqdIhHdbOGKtuMpPzTuLv99lZMMproif4BlAAK7trOXdHj69y8Pk8czNpPd5NCXgYFGAPz3-iKODwnuZD19A2hVOJLgeT38CCK8M8/s320/Kaia_033.png" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU40fvG2-6aS55JKIguacW7BNCIR_DgIPG_LdCRKdn7aLopBqYvFedfXsjl80-uWq66BtJ13SafJPjmdXdIKUJvtqfLfLR8i9TStAwLEJFno_0PzBUR5pclTIHoclPG3sOH_fot_JraBAl/s1600-h/Kaia_049.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242977399350119666" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU40fvG2-6aS55JKIguacW7BNCIR_DgIPG_LdCRKdn7aLopBqYvFedfXsjl80-uWq66BtJ13SafJPjmdXdIKUJvtqfLfLR8i9TStAwLEJFno_0PzBUR5pclTIHoclPG3sOH_fot_JraBAl/s320/Kaia_049.png" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><div>Well, here I am in my new place....fully decorated....but, I didn't stay there long. I already belonged to a business location and was considered a "resident" of this island which allowed me to select it as my "home" location. It was a very nice, large and safe environment complete with large sandbox for unpacking and changing clothes. Once SL was shut down, my avatar no longer existed and therefore had no need for a bed and jammies to pass the time while I took care of RL business.<br /><br /><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div>Two things changed my mind about this concept:</div><br /><div>1. Our large open sandbox was so open, that my poor avatar had no privacy, and in the middle of a wardrobe switch, she was frequently surprised by curious visitors....yes I know it's not real, but let's be honest, some of the avatar shapes and skins are rather realistic and it's just disconcerting to be surprised by male avatars just standing there not saying a word and enjoying the view. Sometimes the curiosity bordered on griefing since these observers were usually newbies and could not control their directions or flying....quite annoying.</div><br /><div>2. While attending a volunteer meeting, one of the participants invited us to her SL home to make the group meeting a bit more private. Wow. The place was beautiful and our meeting had a nicer flow in this relaxed and spacious atmosphere. </div><br /><div>These experiences got me thinking about what was necessary to own a piece of the grid.</div><br /><div>Ok, so after exploring <a href="http://secondlife.com/land/pricing.php">Linden's</a> explanation about owning a small 512 sqm piece of land as allowed under the premium account (which involved about $10 per month), and after reading the tier scheme that applied to any parcel larger than your allowed 512 sqm, my eyes began to cross and I was disenchanted with the permanency of such a commitment based purchase.</div><br /><div>Instead, I did a search for rental since I knew that commercial booths could be rented, and mixed among the results were house rentals available. The choices were amazing...any type of environment complete with any size house could be rented. Some homes were furnished some were not. Here is a breakdown of what I found:</div><br /><div>A handy little store dedicated to rentals available: <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Garman/201/187/101/?title=The%20Rental%20Directory">The Rental Directory</a></div><br /><div>I loved this place. It was an easy way to view the different types of land/houses available to narrow down what type of atmosphere you would most enjoy. Some of the ads also included pricing samples to give you a price range - not many of these, but enough to get you started. </div><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231605715916904754" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="174" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJmwFJq4FGwm4Xh7zYzyf4plnmA8kTpLGMnQjmAiYpyKqO4MO3sYqozpxV7QF4OR_XWzJ-89wgADcHTUCY0XS8LddmX9fztzEEvglewKw0yKcsCgVRd3BeIja79J0Wn2CAewnQwUYW2ghB/s320/VWP_021.png" width="362" border="0" />Pricing for house rentals are per week based. When you first see the price per week, it can be a bit of sticker shock, especially when you see the size of house per price level. Each house also has a prim limit - the maximum number of primitives your furniture can total while residing in the dwelling. If you rent a pre-furnished place, your prim limit would be very low; If unfurnished, usually very reasonable.<br /><br /><div>On this outing I decided to focus on beachfront property. It is summer afterall, and I've been very impressed by some of the tropical setting sims. If done right, they can be gorgeous. What I mean by "done right" is a tropical sim that doesn't look like a large square sim divided by canals into smaller sand box shapes. Granted, if it is land you rent or buy in this fashion, you may have the option to edit the terrain. If not, or if the house is a rental, your only option to change the look of the surroundings is to disguise your plot's rectangle with strategic landscaping.</div><br /><div>Above all, shop around....take your time. One thing I also came to value as I looked at the possible rentals was the presence or lack of a group social area. Several places included the use of community areas along with the rental. This feature can be very nice for entertaining or as a way to make new friends out of your neighbors!</div><br /><div>Ok, so I finally chose a place to call my own (for awhile). I decided on <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Jaborandi/51/31/23/?title=Marina%20%26%20Home%20of%20Kaia%20Estate%27s%20Rental%20Office">Kaia Estates </a>run by a very nice landlord Meggie DeCosta. Meggie has other residential sims to choose from and I think you will like the detail she includes in these estates.</div><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231960968042816002" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Kqs7c9-k48VDUUCWMAjhdz6ebHZImrnYmVlt0zfY7zG3NbXfBAQP3elwQ0C7feCdpYDl5Y_20yF5fmSUWvsGdhGzg6N_YEqbxp0rgW1L_wLJXUMzYXVIiTozMKT0EyFz8Sb5fk3qmJHO/s320/Kaia_005.png" border="0" />I didn't want to spend a whole lot, and for the price, Kaia is quite nice! The little tropical port with free use of the estate provided boats and jetskis is charming. Very appealing for visitors and comes complete with social gathering places such as a Starbucks and a wine room. There are even satellite shops of some of your favorite places, such as UK Couture, right there near your residence...very handy.<br /><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231961832927897154" style="DISPLAY: block; No square plots here, the natural waterways (free to use with your boat) with little surprises such as fire pits and gazebos, make this place a cut above the rest.<br /><br />I found a cute little place for L$600 per week on one of the inlets....basic in design, and looks small when first viewed. But inside, the houses are quite spacious and the simple shape allows for ultimate view of the scenery since two major walls are windows. BTW, Meggie just announced that she is lowering the price by L$50 on all units!<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5232322618959388082" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXdwnGAyR4FG3bGYJ_FB7grVZDyGfizFWZX-wMr00gdVovIYWeoV1xqM0FeQwf_LID5ccdzxyfk-9lORRWI57LSj3VOXtpg1dEiC8kSQ15yGh-6n2624zurNvljspW3QQoBF4JrVA_rROe/s320/First+House_004.png" border="0" />One note about choosing your place....take a look at the rating of the area. Kaia is mature, which doesn't mean a whole lot since they don't advocate pdas, but I have walked out onto my deck to scan the lovely horizon and inadvertently come across my neighbors out on their deck going at it like rabbits....so if you don't want to be at risk of such a blinding experience, pick a house with neighbors a bit farther away, or look for PG rated residential areas. </div><br /><div>Stay tuned for my next segment about the rental process....and shopping for furniture!</div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Sifriyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04988505052842981532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229228998237479433.post-24562413711213129692008-07-06T22:22:00.016-04:002008-07-07T11:32:20.579-04:00Searching for Fashion Fun and Other Events<div><div><div><div><div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9RGVLtiRz9WAe356lRzFa27cExHB2VBWjypDGPQrBMVW7fQEbKQqUwXr6Y7qMedBme0OYbgcE04m1QSHT3YtDZhAQGtRzwHJ1Rwy_ZDD9PmGqWrOMqsM-zPGFpzQ5hF4wu4FhjoH2KjZ0/s1600-h/Liberty_082C.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220101780234185506" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 317px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 259px" height="244" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9RGVLtiRz9WAe356lRzFa27cExHB2VBWjypDGPQrBMVW7fQEbKQqUwXr6Y7qMedBme0OYbgcE04m1QSHT3YtDZhAQGtRzwHJ1Rwy_ZDD9PmGqWrOMqsM-zPGFpzQ5hF4wu4FhjoH2KjZ0/s400/Liberty_082C.png" width="287" border="0" /></a> Boredom should never be a word used in SL. There are way too many things going on to keep your SL social calendar crammed full. My first advice is to join your full (or near full) capacity of groups. Search for things you like to do, places you like to go, hobbies near and dear to you in the groups section to find other people and events that share your interests. Once you join these groups their events will be sent to you in the form of notices that offer details and teleports to the social event planned. For instance, I wanted to check out the Holiday action taking place on the 4th of July....so I entered "4th" in the events search tab and pulled up loads of events taking place, from treasure hunts to parades, to dance parties....the amount of fun going on was vast! I checked out a couple of places, but my favorite spot to party this fourth was an impromtu dance party held<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHddaFRL3xxPTOdrfrLRRRJYpT5Zrpl06gcbqOU4pXlaUNjjiEy07o55mTo21OL7iK38Psa6_0H2JzTX9-Vk0M7ic0r5-2k6SVCO0SKLJI8v1UUaVY1Kyk6laR71hGLSOQIwK1KMzOBPWl/s1600-h/Liberty_117.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220102186941196002" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 377px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 224px" height="215" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHddaFRL3xxPTOdrfrLRRRJYpT5Zrpl06gcbqOU4pXlaUNjjiEy07o55mTo21OL7iK38Psa6_0H2JzTX9-Vk0M7ic0r5-2k6SVCO0SKLJI8v1UUaVY1Kyk6laR71hGLSOQIwK1KMzOBPWl/s400/Liberty_117.png" width="362" border="0" /></a> on the back porch of the White House at the <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Land%20of%20Lincoln/135/119/22/?title=Land%20of%20Lincoln">Land of Lincoln </a>Sim. No period dress was required for this event and the music and company were high quality. The attendees were even treated to a fireworks display at the end of the dance...great fun! (BTW - If you can find a nice Civil War era ballgown to wear, there is a historic Ball event planned for <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Land%20of%20Lincoln/135/119/22/?title=Land%20of%20Lincoln">Land of Lincoln </a>on Friday night July 11th!)<br /><br /><div>For the regular event seeker, and to get a glimpse at the newest fashions making their debut in SL, I recommend searching for the word "fashion" in the events tab to locate fashion shows going on. Your best results will be on the weekends of course, but some of the fashion shows involve charity fundraisers with auctions and other great coordinating activities. And don't forget the "notify" function at the bottom of the event description to have reminders sent to you before the event begins!<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220102683066324626" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin6T17WL_gfP7hVDSs6cvl2GXj6942JZqGK6GBzOgHfslIJMzhLkt7Q-eOxM5FMxaMXoGAjLjFUemvj2JmztVTPeiJusFgjosOG_YAtLQ7xekHE5GCC4M7-sV6tlVRHxsUH_oubI5UtKf4/s400/Search_001.png" border="0" />Just last weekend I searched for "fashion" and came across a fashion show that I missed, but when I teleported the event location anyway, there were still models hanging around and I was able to learn about a neat new period gown designer...definitely worth the teleport! My second fashion show listing described a show that was in progress on the <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Galaxy%20AFT/59/43/21/?title=SS%20Galaxy">S.S. Galaxy </a>cruise ship! What an experience! The ship is huge with several decks of mall shops and a very nice fashion runway on the upper level. You can even rent rooms and take a cruise - honeymoon suites available :-)<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220103187955470514" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="260" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS5-RCgq_oZ2dHjapJIm0CVOIKx0SmE7TfCv4LBM_NCHqCFlPx2y9H7KwPKRMTAgFr44eHKaG9Fkk8XoGVFpm4zi2IvxQUArxHbFEO-3e997wf1HCVkSL0GNn7ZuQjd3Z3Kzy4YsyEOTWK/s400/Fashion+Show_009.png" width="422" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220103538690466418" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="255" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf5Rl5vxgaw6GaaA_ZGbAH358UA3mws-BOZsau0sKKyumxGObKSindMiWAPLNuiNqk3tSp8c9tFBhszZe-oJfsAXSgQOQExUlgh7yQXs8_L8L9_Dq3-Ksg7gljEYlAmA7OQh-OGID7yZ2K/s400/Fashion+Show_010.png" width="433" border="0" /> The people and models can make you lag a bit, but take a seat and relax...the models make several trips up and down the runway to allow for the rezzing drag.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220103887473198722" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="256" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-iBNF6fBKHbGV4lbSUlXMi_ltpvmyz_iHh46kuoa4EWDt4ciN-ZVyFAWGZJFOTw8PEnQEMJb9BVMYnfeFtfESxWor0kDd2t-lmrN4WzQ67oPq4SDkhqiHx_9rA6YAAZSdUBd6Dco0ZfuZ/s400/Fashion+Show_008.png" width="415" border="0" /> What a great way to see the new designs on actual avatars! And as they stand around after their run, you can zoom your camera in to get close-up views of the clothing quality. Definitely a fun and informative way to spend some weekend time in SL!<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220104232725749298" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="263" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjavKZ3o73wmCWrkjUrq8HIX096pcCuy3RDHKJw_f9gJlYy5Z65iqpiTqIUoXZ62VWHhiouuma2Wd8ORP9Qf7h351p4z-pI1Ddnuc99bga_kJf42G84Xz9mJg3MlYzVFbuMmdfo7EdRWGUo/s400/Fashion+Show_006.png" width="423" border="0" />Enjoy!</div><div>Sifriya </div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Sifriyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04988505052842981532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229228998237479433.post-34224025535478423882008-07-01T15:30:00.025-04:002008-07-07T11:32:20.580-04:00More (nearly) Free Fourth of July Fun :)Hip hip hooray! In honor of Independence Day here is an outfit I put together for the occasion:<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQgKSBEpyfC-epyLWVOpGbpzr5CFkv978v59Z4i8RkaDgHqzJzdpiPp0-smzyjuHxOQmWsjc9tDfpZqfj-9QanjBLvFTVIGugPDW6T-pp4JYSeJhi2FyI6gCaxD-DSglbNio65Y8lKAer6/s1600-h/Frick+Fireworks+Tan+Outfit.png"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQgKSBEpyfC-epyLWVOpGbpzr5CFkv978v59Z4i8RkaDgHqzJzdpiPp0-smzyjuHxOQmWsjc9tDfpZqfj-9QanjBLvFTVIGugPDW6T-pp4JYSeJhi2FyI6gCaxD-DSglbNio65Y8lKAer6/s400/Frick+Fireworks+Tan+Outfit.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218006928221185698" /></a><br /><br />The cool stars and stripes pants with the skull belt come from <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Pouncival/143/191/77/">Strayer</a> and cost $1L.<br /><br />The shoes (I feel like I can click my heels and end up in Kansas with them!) come from <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Henrietta/86/96/130/">Seasons</a>, and I got them for free in their Independence Day Star Hunt.<br /><br />The top is part of <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Genesis/174/167/28/">Adam n Eve's</a> Happy Fourth Swimsuit gift, which costs $1L for a pack of US and UK themed bikinis.<br /><br />The hair is "Victoria" in navy from <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Addictive/96/170/22/">Diversity Hair.</a><br /><br />I got the Catherine Deneuve shape for free in a camping chair at <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Midnight%20Oasis/197/70/23/">Body Doubles.</a><br /><br /><br />The skin is a fabulous free theme skin from <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blackmount/100/137/234/">Frick.</a> Fricka Morgath, in her words, "specialize[s] in Fantasy, Gothic and<br />Wildly madeup skins!" Her skins are fun, good quality, and very reasonably priced. This particular skin is called "Fireworks" and comes in a pack with a tanned version, a goth version and a shape. She even through in the cool red white and blue sparkly thing that you can see over my head in the picture. I'm wearing the tan skin with my outfit.<br /><br />Here is a close up of the "tan" version:<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2ukllxNkp7vyfe__2lbWdi9QsC33TDlMOqMqqIpoyi5oX1uUQDeIMRVvVT2lQZ0qjd4xR6-WkPIgLo6h9DYaAIWaK5dUhGwM5pTWvA3qkCtqGL5dqzbcAe_4pF3COmwrrVs8elLKvD2Ju/s1600-h/Frick+Fireworks+Tan+closeup+1.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218004216598768722" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2ukllxNkp7vyfe__2lbWdi9QsC33TDlMOqMqqIpoyi5oX1uUQDeIMRVvVT2lQZ0qjd4xR6-WkPIgLo6h9DYaAIWaK5dUhGwM5pTWvA3qkCtqGL5dqzbcAe_4pF3COmwrrVs8elLKvD2Ju/s320/Frick+Fireworks+Tan+closeup+1.png" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br />Notice the nice details in the makeup. Having the opportunity to attend a live action play is truly memorable and should not be missed. Many of the plays performed by the <a href="http://slshakespeare.com/pages/playbills">SL Shakespeare Company </a>are pay for attendance, but for the next month they are performing a free staged reading performance of the Twelfth Night. Don't be fooled by the "voice" aspect of this performance as there is much to see and experience just through stopping by.<br /><br /><div>There is more than one Globe Theatre in SL and I hope to profile the other one on Renaissance Island at a later date, but this segment will profile the sights of the largest <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/sLiterary/23/15/23/?title=SL%20Globe%20Theatre">Globe Theatre</a> in SL on the sLiterary sim. I have had the opportunity to attend events on <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Renaissance%20Island/215/40/26/?title=Renaissance%20Island">Renaissance Island </a>which require visitors to dress in period style, so for the opening night of the Twelfth Night this past Friday, I arrived in a complete Elizabethan costume, ready to enjoy the show. Ironically, besides the actors in the play, I was the only one in costume since sLiterary is not a period dress sim. I arrived a half hour early simply because I'm still not great about SL time as I am on the East Coast in RL. By arriving early I had the advantage of looking around and hearing the actors practice their lines. </div><br /><div><strong>WARNING ABOUT THE SL GLOBE THEATRE</strong>: when the Globe opened a while back, I attempted to attend the performance in a flexi costume on an older computer: MISTAKE. The attendance for these performances is usually very high and lag becomes almost catastrophic. For the first performance several weeks ago, people were tp-ing in only to be trapped in walls with cries of "How do I get out of here?" It was a horrible experience and after a few computer crashes I managed to escape back home. I was very disappointed, but I will warn you that they do not impose prim limits on attendees so people show up in all kinds of formal or casual wear regardless of drag on the sim. This is the reason they have had to move to a pay for attendance format with their live action plays. So my advice is (and can apply to many group events) get there early and get your seat incase the program freezes, you might still get to listen to the voice and at least be in a rezed position to tp out if things get hairy. I would also make sure you only attend if your processor is up to snuff and limit the amount of prims you wear in. One other recent discovery, if you search "globe" in places, there are three options for this theatre, each with different tp arrival points to ease the tp traffic...very handy!</div><br /><div>This performance was well attended, but not overly so and the experience was a very enjoyable one. Here are some of the highlights to entice you to attend one of the next weekend showings through July 20th.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214805631347135026" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="252" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_xgIvdgJ6QJaLymJakpVKw51MpROdyig_6XjfRftTAyYBGnqRKEU-xD5C7tETXurjfzZdcQJt1pUpO-E8w2dmlH6tc0pgWmsKkBGg1MDojvXUbSr6pZFuxL9bN5r-dPQGOqOLtu47x8wT/s400/Shakespeare_076.png" width="429" border="0" />The complex surrounding the Globe Theatre is quite lovely and includes a literary center and gift shop. For the opening night there was a nice table complete with refreshments. Plays appear to go on each month under the pay admission system, and the ticket booth gives upcoming show times and prices. Each showing usually runs L$350 per person which is a fairly reasonable price for the veteran, but a bit cost prohibitive for the newbie. It would be nice to see them offer a discounted or free seat to those under 30 days old. A nice opportunity to promote the SL art scene.</div><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214807629643464610" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 446px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 269px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="256" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuFIlXX71gh36EB2WwAmA4tRLigP8U3Igt_zIRudF01jc_QrO_4GV_6NW-9i0euGAn20rVzpvny2wD27mpeAyzCtrWnBNGhyphenhyphen3oqROenDVVaVGS7jifQipybPpKmbAflZ6Vkzp01WnshFO7/s400/Shakespeare_016.png" width="414" border="0" /> View from the air...note the full size ship behind the theatre....just waiting to be explored!<br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214809339291906418" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 439px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 265px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="261" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn25J3J9z0cjLBvAaSND2H8j7qigRCuyyQvH1JY6k8VWIxHgUwPzVxls7ZFMcEizwbxbMsrO5Y4DIfsIf9U0Dg6HWKSMssYgVgwhncJckmwSkLCoknOaGpb-miWD9naZZuEYAe-IrmaSWN/s400/Shakespeare_028.png" width="425" border="0" /> From the inside, you can see the spacious seating and stage area. Very unique space and fairly easy to move around in. Sometimes, your avatar may slip through the floor, but you don't get stuck and end up in the location you originally intended.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214809772502949218" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="243" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAAmsLevDD2rRGesPQaC06Gx7YUXJh2ZxMjB7A5x6NYbRS9CHWkPnmYmg8DNUf8WKx0UAKvDcTsvjxUnyb22IseTXNm744DP9hrVUNo-fOHCBY8siIphd8GTmplYkV-yUyvsjp9IP6dnLp/s400/Shakespeare_046.png" width="421" border="0" />It may appear by the coloring of the stage actors, that my pc had not finished rezing by the time I snapped the photo, but au contraire, this was a unique effect intended for this production. Each stage avatar was specifically designed in black and white tones to visually represent the lack of motion. The speaking avatars did get up when it was their turn to deliver a line, but in general, the physical action was minimal, hoping to bring the speaking parts into prominence.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214812840515724210" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="266" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-HxBmRLBGtosIOM5oMuVkF4Blv0I9fv3rsLBbUuECtmeCSd7nHJ_-fe9KzjpE6H02Q2QImNrsJS6J1HFzNRreEeU4dHZ7qAvqjdSQGYDZXu97Z9zS_6_nST3MORT-S78HkpawsfJyhBfG/s400/Shakespeare_025.png" width="424" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214817651081230274" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="246" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0yNkwuMUNKlJ7IUSJknLIYFhzpdKe1zCp05VZwgrFhucpQPC0RSJ9C1GJK-fBUXGB8ToWQWQbbTl32sBrs2IVNk1hsEvb3FbvlC6-zuqWlY3Ha8SSYTv_N7fOjAv-t5_EoSaOBzzFTwVV/s400/Shakespeare_030.png" width="424" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214818202595464690" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 423px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 260px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="252" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdJkjtj2lVPft3G-BtxdKamGSHZj2pzDnsg8svoIDC-wiJ58ohLeu8sQIERB4vw2v4ZRXbf2FLd7morvfUByAwVikyFI_bzT0lqI5eVL3AH_t74ZaknbNYkw6F48mF1-Jp1Ti5bYGqulQP/s400/Shakespeare_036.png" width="415" border="0" />Overall, I really found this new presentation to be quite intriguing! The minimalist color, devoid of any flesh tones gave everything a very ancient, ethereal quality. You truly felt as though you were listening to the ghostly voices of actors past. It was announced at the beginning of the production that if you download the newest release viewer prior to attending, you could take advantage of a new feature that allows you to see lips moving in conjunction with the lines spoken. I was not aware of this beforehand and did not have time to download the newest release which would obviously put this production in an even greater realm of performance virtue!<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214820605866906706" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="261" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF1Y0wMY3FpYDWHfSNg_qGGiKaUaEJU1uwnhMnp2UEcn8KMjfkO8uDibH23Z0sL89Otuo2JgWrgN-tZj33DtGd277Pc9q1KgQ3vuFwbA-6Nim7MLhoBS_o_UJX1h0RppYaglrIZzm2I8uH/s400/Shakespeare_042.png" width="426" border="0" />On a comical side note, my costume faux pas did permit me to claim the most coveted seat in the house: the Queen's throne! It is open for anyone to sit there, on the second level, centrally located across from the players, although, in this instance, I think my appearance was a much younger Bess than would have attended the play 400+ years ago. And once again, don't worry about what to wear, just go as yourself, no special costume required as you can see from the downstairs group. (Note the odd script that went along with a few of the seats....I'm not sure what the arms floating in the air was supposed to signify, but from personal experience, the animation also made your eyes shift into a slightly possessed look....was it designed to be a rapture of some sort? Not sure, but be on the look-out for that weird animation, might increase your lag a bit.)<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214822068530612066" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="263" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAguBPaq5CZMze_42fvzs_LH9BbpYSIO9N_D-BcXpkZhX-07-BFyhLaDIjuuslgjHRXZc4znSxJHyAXNCGOce_KBFsXxIArTtomyQcqw3xNb4iMo_4C82o1vn-AV3HyN7H5TxI8LnSc8Aq/s400/Shakespeare_067.png" width="430" border="0" /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFFMdaWdJerlk5bZ21zYOT2jrIZ0-YQbG6HFIwHhFcrfvg2Fc2rDgIeGU9HSY9PFqWS_706ydUKovv6X98PQZroF7BPo-t5nyyy8vOoqtKJYDTk_skxW7YZemi62bFk62alutJB5CYSs9b/s1600-h/Shakespeare_054c.png"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214823871180908962" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 155px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 197px" height="286" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFFMdaWdJerlk5bZ21zYOT2jrIZ0-YQbG6HFIwHhFcrfvg2Fc2rDgIeGU9HSY9PFqWS_706ydUKovv6X98PQZroF7BPo-t5nyyy8vOoqtKJYDTk_skxW7YZemi62bFk62alutJB5CYSs9b/s400/Shakespeare_054c.png" width="234" border="0" /></a>Well that's all for this report on the Twelfth Night production....get out there this summer and try to absorb a bit of culture, SL style!<br /><br /><br />And..<br /><br />"May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!" Deion Sanders' mantra to explain the size of closet (which by the way, seems to be the size of a modest house in the suburbs for the average person) is "when you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you play good!" This statement is just as true in Second Life as it is on the football or baseball field. With this philosophy in mind, here are a few observations about appearance in Second Life that are useful for newbies.<br /></p><p>Clothes are great, and in Second Life your avi can dress well on a minimal budget. A five dollar deposit in your SL account will get you over $1000 Lindens. Outfits cost from $100L to $300L on the average at a lot of my favorite shops. You can also join the groups of sims that you particularly like and many times the designers give away nice freebies to group members. You can also find nice freebies around the sim, often in gift boxes, or labeled as free. You can wear fabulous clothes in SL without breaking the bank.<br /></p><p>Skins and shapes are fundamental to making your avi individual and unique. Most of us modify our Rez Day avies almost as soon as we exit Orientation Isle to get away from that obvious newbie look. Your original shape is fine as far as it goes, but when you are ready to refine your look there are many shape designers to help you out. The Lindens have helpfully added 16 <a href='http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/06/18/if-you-dont-look-good-we-dont-look-good/'>new avatars</a> for our use. These new shapes are complete ensembles, that is, all you have to do is to drag the folder to your avi and the outfit is complete with shape, skin, hair, clothes, etc. These new looks were designed by renowned SL shape, skin and clothes designers and are a good place to start. To access these new shapes, open your inventory, then click on "Library", then "Clothing", and pick the look. These new looks are helpfully labeled with the designers who created them, so if you find a look you like you can always visit the particular sim and explore.<br /></p><p>Some of the designers include Adam n Eve, Grendel's Children, Nylon Pinkney, Wraith Unsung and Renegade Clothing. I already had a couple of skins from <a href='http://www.adam-n-eve.co.uk/'>Adam n Eve</a>, and some outfits from <a href='http://renegadeclothing.blogspot.com/'>Renegade Clothing</a> which I like, so I'm happy to see that they have donated their creativity to Linden Labs to help newbies develop their looks.<br /></p><p>Next time I'll talk about skins, and review some fabulous free ones! And kudos to my gal pal Sifriya for setting up our blog and for her phenomenal and informative posts :) I just used her post about the <a href="http://slurl.com/build.php">SLurl Builder</a>, and as you can see it is very handy.<br /><br />I confess, I'm addicted to hair. One of the first things I changed about my default avatar was the hair. At times I change my hair styles more often than I change my clothes. I saw picture of a SL fashionista with great hair and looked at her credits to find that she was wearing <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Dernier%20Cri/108/139/28/">Dernier Cri</a> hair.<br /><br />This hair is beautiful, and has a very innovative feature. When trying the demos, you wear both the hair, and a 'dye pack' The hair is white, and the dye pack has the complete color packet; you click on the color you like, and the hair magically changes to that color. The prices are reasonable: $95L for 1 color, $195L for 3 color pack. The nice thing about this hair is that you can pick exactly the colors you like without having to buy multipacks of colors that are all similar. So you can get black, brunette, and red for example, without having to buy 10 shades of each color. How cool is that?<br /><br />An added bonus is that it is fun to watch the hair color develop. It even counts down the percentage that is done until you get to 100%. You can try different colors with the demos, but when you buy the hair, you can only choose a color once and that's it.<br /><br />Here is a picture of me with the "Tara" style. It is a very nice mid length layered bob, and I got it with highlights!<br /><br />Dernier Cri skins and clothes are even more fabulous. Stay tuned for my upcoming post about skins.<br /><br /><p>~Char</p><p>Clothes by: Myra's Fashions (Les Bleus!)<br />Corsaire blanc pants<br />Zidane t-shirt<br />Shape: Ayumi Hamamsaki Shape by Body Doubles<br />Skin by Cake: Jessica-Island-Bare<br />Shoes by Kool Kicks: Low Top-Camo Blue<br />Eyes by: The Body Politik--Vivid Eyes Collection--Cloudy Skies<br /><br /><br /></p><p></p><br /><br /><br /><p></p><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><p></p><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><p></p>Charissehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14623598392138603256noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229228998237479433.post-79927987083409260602008-06-11T21:17:00.004-04:002008-06-11T21:29:04.813-04:00Look What I Found! Within the past week, I have put at least three new events on the calendar with many more to come. As I attended a couple of events last week, it was evident that the wardrobe needed to be updated. After all, it is now summer throughout the European and North American continents, and oddly enough, the users tend to dress their avatars to match their RL location...strange isn't it?<br /><br /><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div>To get started, I decided to load up some money, and shop around some of my favorite places to see what new little dresses and summer pieces were being offered. In most cases, the new summer pieces were gorgeous and plentiful! I also decided to buy several outfits in one outing by mixing and matching the accessories from different stores to create unique ensembles. I would also llike to remind the readers that I kept within ranges of L$500 for each outfit. In many cases, I was well under that range due to my philosophy that you can remain very simpatico in SL for not a lot of money.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209245184569585010" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgChWgKpkXjgpOz7ZipAvwXfxnBAA_oP0GOthrkPN9HkQSRgfLKRpoeYLxUufg87I6OrH_ZAQ5emP2KGoDBEov4P1DvLP4Ttk54Wq64m-X0VK4-brcVvFfm7yE-eqPDkAgwAR4LSeG2OVny/s400/Summer+Shopping_001.jpg" border="0" /></div><div>One of my first stops was to <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Tropical%20Orchid/233/128/30/?title=Designs%20by%20Nicky%20Ree">Nicky Ree's </a>main store on Tropical Orchid. The range of clothing is great and her high-end designs are gorgeous! The color of her creations and the store atmosphere make for a very welcoming experience and should be tried at your earliest convenience. I will try to do a separate entry for the Nicky Ree store at a later date, but here is your first taste. Her price range is also affordable at anywhere from the low L$100s to a couple of thousand for really high end pieces that should be kept in mind for costume or very regal events. </div><br /><div>I mention the <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Tropical%20Orchid/233/128/30/?title=Designs%20by%20Nicky%20Ree">Nicky Ree </a>store specifically because she not only has a few new very cute sundresses which I will show you below, but right now, she has a wonderful selection of fun pumps that are so colorful they will fit with most of your new dresses. In fact, I may have returned to buy a different color for each of my new outfits with the exception of one. Each pair is only L$150 and some with spring/summer patterns that are adorable!<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209245706377400178" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh71nPHOFD9d2EUFTDoTQrttuGfozJm5Kuer_eBUYlWsIhNYroGjhGy2Ngp9PGpC3kzWVQeojfqibV0Sm72XJxr8stlbG-EQypuRktWxlP2rgVn_YYBKYMVLrOTc0-s3K2zO_qaqhz6xFLI/s400/Summer+Shopping_002.jpg" border="0" />I ended up purchasing two dresses from Nicky Ree as you can see below:<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSTFVdASgLw23QYvlukNqZr6XdmiLv_NVszhd0eLwOxPUXj28wghQbnd0BU-HTlrdBoH-VuGHtIdT-AT981rKrpMZTYObjAOURgzhPEhYOmSaR8HBMhFSNLPIY-akPYrdzMZHPArIzDDFQ/s1600-h/SummerWardrobe3.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209248376179479826" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSTFVdASgLw23QYvlukNqZr6XdmiLv_NVszhd0eLwOxPUXj28wghQbnd0BU-HTlrdBoH-VuGHtIdT-AT981rKrpMZTYObjAOURgzhPEhYOmSaR8HBMhFSNLPIY-akPYrdzMZHPArIzDDFQ/s400/SummerWardrobe3.jpg" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNCYCI6dFbQH95M0guxfVtbOPWwWlWZ5WkCIfbusG5WwfGhklyzidUriVziG9Sn9u2WAmT5peHYMu9j8HxdC8zaF9RuqgeJmGLl1GHQCc0DdH3JR6sivbKUlnISkooBHpv0aP2K16eJt1f/s1600-h/SummerWardrobe4.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209249158682592818" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNCYCI6dFbQH95M0guxfVtbOPWwWlWZ5WkCIfbusG5WwfGhklyzidUriVziG9Sn9u2WAmT5peHYMu9j8HxdC8zaF9RuqgeJmGLl1GHQCc0DdH3JR6sivbKUlnISkooBHpv0aP2K16eJt1f/s400/SummerWardrobe4.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />This yellow sundress with the daisies is one of her new lines just to the right of the entrance and available in many different colors. Cost is L$380, fairly reasonable, and the shoes are one of her spring collection with little yellow flowers print and purple up around the sides...too cute! Hair is by ETD which I will profile further down the post, and the jewelry is a freebie I picked up somewhere a few months ago. I think this dress calls for flower jewelry, but that's just me.</div><br /><div>This next dress is way in the back of the store among some of the higher end and more expensive designs, but was so summery and unique, I couldn't pass it up. I decide<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYlHpjegfZmDPOOnjVVz2zKTW66xRewjuSIL87neBUn-I2KHrE-sRVnrJgB3oVni1qZufAPDSQY-snA8IacY9FiVB9I8YII7ymBEfyL4f53QiNWfNk4KZ7xSR4j8wFiVi9kAdWT-qZj_hm/s1600-h/SummerWardrobe5.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209251078294136754" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYlHpjegfZmDPOOnjVVz2zKTW66xRewjuSIL87neBUn-I2KHrE-sRVnrJgB3oVni1qZufAPDSQY-snA8IacY9FiVB9I8YII7ymBEfyL4f53QiNWfNk4KZ7xSR4j8wFiVi9kAdWT-qZj_hm/s400/SummerWardrobe5.jpg" border="0" /></a>d it was festive enough to buy for the upcoming Second Life 5th anniversary party. It just screams birthday festivities! The cost was L$480, the highest I paid for anything during this trip, and the shoes, one of Nicky's summer collection matched the dress material perfectly! I was in love with this outfit immediately! The hair is one of the L$1 freebies from <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Addictive/91/172/22/?title=Diversity%20Hair">Diversity Hair </a>"Jess" in so many colors I won't ever use them all. I love the Jess design. Nice long flexi ponytail with cute bangs and really nice shading. I use this hair style a lot lately, very cute and convenient.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCGxNX8Jt-hj3Ps-c2PS2Acm9g5G5od8e9cCFMrolffEkK-K8-icty7mtXT99hnutycBZJ8mR_U7tBKJZ2iDMbcAg7n5SLGfmUVWMXZE_ApsXzh6lrYeogvpxj2zmpeuB2H_t0wQJoTLVj/s1600-h/SummerWardrobe6.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209251370182514354" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 199px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 181px" height="330" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCGxNX8Jt-hj3Ps-c2PS2Acm9g5G5od8e9cCFMrolffEkK-K8-icty7mtXT99hnutycBZJ8mR_U7tBKJZ2iDMbcAg7n5SLGfmUVWMXZE_ApsXzh6lrYeogvpxj2zmpeuB2H_t0wQJoTLVj/s400/SummerWardrobe6.jpg" width="259" border="0" /></a></div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRZBNliy__vHDlZ5fAeN9ipR7DlrUBDBCU-Uu086LfiT6IQdzWpdUCbQnym1OshjeBFumz32oy8DLNhC1tBWXB_wVscryB9xvElcu8TdA5rz7q-T9wJ2a88-CV3S8rxkvChkpNJcowMGXj/s1600-h/SummerWardrobe5.jpg"></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div>My next dress purchase came from the main <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/DeFleur/141/175/24/?title=DeFleur%20Fashions">DeFleur</a> store. I will have to rave more about this store later regarding their incredible selection of renaissance period dresses of beautiful detail at amazingly low prices. Take your time shopping here, and be sure to hover over every dress...she likes to make the less popular color designs free or greatly reduced!! These offerings change, so be sure to landmark this store and visit frequently for new bargains! </div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCmIMe_r-Pl-5J2dxt6oBfVeMfEHSXdL7ULq_IwGcD-fxpIqVLg5WSSZmC_N_lx-jpNDrXfdSIfhwAr99T3fE169T_04F7hY5zCy8ANt9NwnlXk10oj6FUCIMU9of068KzDphFRf4y9m7J/s1600-h/SummerWardrobe7.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209252431440625586" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCmIMe_r-Pl-5J2dxt6oBfVeMfEHSXdL7ULq_IwGcD-fxpIqVLg5WSSZmC_N_lx-jpNDrXfdSIfhwAr99T3fE169T_04F7hY5zCy8ANt9NwnlXk10oj6FUCIMU9of068KzDphFRf4y9m7J/s400/SummerWardrobe7.jpg" border="0" /></a> I found this cute little brown number in one of the little loft areas to the right of the entrance. It is a part of her seasons of the day series, and I am wearing the sunset dress. The pink noon is on my radar for equal cuteness and I may go back for that one later. The prices in this line are around L$200. A great deal on such nice quality designs.<br /><br /><div>I recently wore this to an art gallery opening on <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/Info%20Island/44/78/33/?title=Info%20Island">Info Island </a>and was happy with how it fit in...not too fancy, yet very classic design. The hair is from ETD, another freebie I think, and the jewelry was free from an unknown source (While some freebie clothes can be plain or of really low quality, we Sim-Patico girls NEVER pass up the free jewelry!! Most are fairly nice and expensive jewelry cannot always live up to its higher prices!). Shoes are from the Nicky Ree line mentioned above.</div><br /><div>This next little dress was found at <a href="http://slurl.com/secondlife/ETD%20Isle/188/192/30/?title=ETD">ETD</a>. Not copyable, but the only sunglasses you will ever need as they come complete with animation that allows you to change the position from on your head to on your nose in a nice realistic manner. Did I also mention the lenses and frames are customizable with color, bling and opaqueness? Available in several different styles at about L$200 - L$400 depending on what you like. Charisse is working on a post to introduce you to Dernier Cri, so I won't spill too much about this new place except to say that the clothes are cute unique designs at fabulous prices, and her skins are beautiful at a reasonable L$900. I splurged and bought one of her skins because summer dresses reveal more, which means the shading throughout the body should be attractive and not one sh<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfWUeh5qwd7JTRh6gXPF0rle7RAOK_S_P0vYSrtGpD3l_W-7VvSbt2gfZvl7TpbCl8jJokFhRZIJ4EVWnBNOf8-3gR-b4xtP7PbJXqemfc7aMVlQB2OY1Z68DhJpKGQUnfhyphenhyphenHCP3xiMmkJ/s1600-h/SummerWardrobe9.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209255621124260194" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 316px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 228px" height="245" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfWUeh5qwd7JTRh6gXPF0rle7RAOK_S_P0vYSrtGpD3l_W-7VvSbt2gfZvl7TpbCl8jJokFhRZIJ4EVWnBNOf8-3gR-b4xtP7PbJXqemfc7aMVlQB2OY1Z68DhJpKGQUnfhyphenhyphenHCP3xiMmkJ/s400/SummerWardrobe9.jpg" width="334" border="0" /></a>ade - as you can see from the back that accentuates the shoulder blades wonderfully. Most of my summer wardrobe bought in just a few sessions. I will next be off to look <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimyFvrmhd2-zLsya0kuNbbWUqQmWzCWf8Jxg8U3aL259VpAN55EQ295JpwU8Yo_LWZ3R0-W0ovwtc4f_4qUF9g_O8nMvU2rRq2NmLghLF5674zmBuYM_gt6FIXeHl93UAVj7tDDpEU6X4E/s1600-h/SummerWardrobe10.jpg"></a>for some cute yet modest (with skirt) bathing suits for the beach parties. I will also keep my eye out for some more casual wear like the capri outfit. My biggest advice is to shop around and don't buy everything at one place. Be frugal and picky to look your best on a budget! Oh, and don't forget to take stock of the skin you're wearing. Almost anything can be worn in winter clothes, but summer requires more revealing outfits so take a look at the back, knees and elbows, etc. Some great skin can be found for free or at low cost, but think about investing in a higher priced skin for the season. At least go to the higher priced skin stores to try on the demos. You will quickly see the differences among sellers! Most shapes can look entirely different with various skins!</div><br /><div></div><div>Here's to leading a great double life!<br />Sifriya</div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Sifriyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04988505052842981532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229228998237479433.post-18054673031615169572008-05-11T21:54:00.004-04:002008-05-13T11:48:35.384-04:00Welcome to Sim-Patico!Sim-Patico is a joint creation between two RL and SL friends who joined SL earlier this year and quickly became victims of grid overload. Second Life is an amazing experience, but the learning curve can be steep and fitting in to lessen the "newbie" look can be a challenge. As we learn more and discover new places, we hope to share those experiences with you in this blog format. Hopefully this will develop into a central location for your SL links, tips, instructions, shopping and travelling needs. Our RL background is more educational, so the focus of this blog will be informational and light in nature: no x-rated reports from these avatars! But be warned: these two broads LOVE to shop in SL, so much of our tips will have a fashion bend.<br /><br />Above all, the purpose behind this endeavor is to help people. In SL, we hope to provide tips, lessons, recommendations and suggestions designed to make your experience more simpatico all around. In RL, we hope to provide links and tips regarding applying SL to RL endeavors such as educational opportunities. As this blog grows, don't be surprised to see some of our other SL friends pop in for additional reports.<br /><br />Let the fun begin!<br />Sifriya & Charisse - aka Sim-PaticoSim-Paticohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08139395767265784480noreply@blogger.com0
